In politely declining a request for an Uncle Tupelo song in Miami, Jeff pretty much said that Wilco is going to play Wilco songs. So people shouldn't be getting hopes up for anything but the Wilco catalog.

Certainly older Wilco stuff is fair game, but people shouldn't get their expectations up for Uncle Tupelo songs or other side project stuff. I would hope that Thank You Friends stays in the set for a while, though.

I would hope that Thank You Friends stays in the set for a while, though. It's kind of weird that they don't do any Uncle Tupelo songs any more--they certainly used to. If Jeff doesn't want to play them, it's his prerogative, but it seems sort of arbitrary, since most of the guys in Wilco weren't in the band when they cut the earlier albums. For Nels or Pat or Mike, what's the difference between Being There and Still Feel Gone? They're both records that Jeff played on and they didn't. Oh, well. The band will play what they want, and as long as they're happy, it's all good. I do hope they keep Big Star in the set for at least one more week, though.
choo-choo-charlie
I'd love to hear a UT number or two as well, but know that it's unrealistic to get one's hopes up. I'd doubt that they'd play "Moonshiner" anyway, considering it was a Jay Farrar vocal...

As the "Wilco" catalogue filled in, there was less need to play UT songs during Wilco sets. I don't know exactly when the UT songs disappeared for good, so I could be wrong, but my assumption is Jeff stopped playing them when the Wilco catalogue started growing into what it is now. Guest Speed Racer
I'd doubt that they'd play "Moonshiner" anyway, considering it was a Jay Farrar vocal... But it's a traditional song. I see what you're saying, but I doubt Jeff would think Jay has any more of a claim on it than he does.

They were still playing New Madrid every once awhile on the Sky Blue Sky tour, and We've Been Had was played pretty consistently up until the end of the YHF tour. Other than that Tupelo songs have been pretty rare in Wilco shows. I'd certainly have no problem with them giving a few of the Wilco songs they play every night up in favor of a few UT cuts, but if they like playing Walken more power to them. --Mike

I agree - I can't seem him doing any UT songs that Jay sang or wrote. Bob Dylan does Moonshiner better anyhow.
Guest Speed Racer
There's always been something moderately humorous to me about Jay, in his early 20s, taking himself so damned seriously. Jeff's songs were always/have always been about where his age was at, and I've really appreciated that about his writing.
Terrapin Ben
I would love to hear Jeff sing moonshiner. I think he could really do that song justice. Not saying Jay didn't, just saying i'd love to hear Jeff's take on the song.

bböp
I guess I have to eat my words (at least a bit) about no "side project" songs being played at Wilco shows since Laminated Cat/Not For The Season got played last night in Clearwater. Oops! I guess technically some non-Wilco stuff is fair game, depending on the band's mood. Still wouldn't advise anyone to get their hopes up for Uncle Tupelo stuff, though.
