I made my brother a killer 4 disc comp. of Farrar's work a year ago but I deleted the play list last week. One disc for each period: Tupelo, SV mach 1, Solo, SV mach 2. If I could just go back in time...

Glad to see someone include "Left A Slide". That's a vastly underrated Son Volt tune.

Anything from 1992-1998 would likely work for me.

just an aside, as retrospectives go, the son volt retrospective is glorious. the original Son Volt lineup and their three proper albums will be one of my favorites periods in music or from a musician/band. They were a steady workhorse (no frills) just straight up awesome.

ok back to the list

Cresote (amazing acoustic guitar work)

Windfall (an all time great song, instant classic, instantly familiar, masterpiece of a song on a masterpiece of an album)

He's also done some killer covers - Mystifies Me, Looking at the World Through a Windshield, Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way? (frequent closer on Son Volt's last tour), Going, Going Gone, Effigy, and Lucifer Sam immediately come to mind.

I'm obsessed with that cover of Going, Going, Gone. Almost put it on my list, but didn't want to take up space that could go to a Farrar original

I KNOW! not only one of his best, but for me one of the best F-ing songs in the entire F-ing world.

couldn't agree more

looking for a way out is one of my 10 favorite non-GBV tracks ever

Good to see Circadian Rhythm on the list somewhere. 20 Jay Farrar songs would be doing a huge list a great injustice. Jay/Son Volt did a great version of The Kinks I'm Not Like Everybody Else as well. Methamphetamine is a recent classic too. I love the heck out of that song.
