GtrPlyr
I just heard about this, what a shame. His last record was pretty great, too bad he wasn't allowed to continue his comeback.

Wild Frank
This is sad news. I had hoped he had come to terms with his demons. His last album was stong. A great artist. RIP
augurus
Good night, you sweet sweet grandfather. I hope New York didn't kill you after all.
Oil Can Boyd
There was a really good - and somewhat sad - profile of him in The New Yorker last year.
GtrPlyr
Interesting choice of words.Yeah, I guess it was. I should have used "able" instead. Don't want to imply that God or whatever took him out, especially being an atheist and all.
LouieB
Very sad news, but inevitable I guess. The article in the New Yorker a year or so ago was heartbreaking. He made some great records in his day though. Only one year older than me. Crazy!!! LouieB There was a really good - and somewhat sad - profile of him in The New Yorker last year. Thanks for hooking this up. It is a really well written piece and very illuminating. bobfrombob
Gil played at the Ottawa Jazz Festival last summer. He was so charming and just seemed to love performing. RIP.
LouieB
You know it is weird. I heard "the Revolution will not be televised" on the radio today and was struck (despite what a great song ite is) by how wrong this has turned out to be. Actually any revolution would be televised. Media is so ubiquitous what with youtube and all. But as a song it never fails to get a laugh from me when when he starts dropping names. many of which are now historical figures rather than part of current events. Life moves on.
