Jeff Tweedy -- 06/04/2011, Oak Brook, IL

Recommended Posts

This should probably be a thread in the After the Show forum, but I figured it might be premature to start a thread since I wasn't there.

But please, all you lucky people, pour some sugar on us! Would love to know if he played any new songs, even if you can't divulge details.

It was just about perfect of an evening. We got a lot of treats: acoustic Bull Black Nova, acoustic Kicking Television, Rainbow Connection (!? - yes, the Kermit song), Let Me Come Home + Panthers (which I got to join him on), No More Poetry (Russ), Family Gardener (ditty), Either Way (Atticus), a Tweedy confrontation over covers vs. his songs (timewasajoke) followed by When You Wake Up Feeling Old. I'll leave the official setlist to others and babble nonsensically about how amazing it was.

Lovely, lovely house at the Jules residence. :wub Weather couldn't have cooperated any more - some rain blew right through and the skies were clear well before Jeff & Sue showed up. And it was nice and cool after the rain as well, another bonus.

WOW, what an amazing night at a wonderful home in Oak Brook. I agree Chris; acoustic Bull Black Nova was incredible, thank you Stan for that request!

There were many great moments of others playing with Jeff…I hope you chime in to tell every one of your experiences! One of the great discussions of the evening was the Wilco and Grateful Dead “community” discussion before Ripple. I must say that spending time with all of you is very special. Whether it is in line before a show, sitting & or standing :yes with you at the show or at these special LRS, I feel very fortunate to be able to spend time with you and this incredible band.

I would like to thank Jeff and Sue Tweedy once again. You are so generous to take an evening away from your family to spend it with us fans that adore you so much for such a great cause. Can’t wait to see everyone again down the road!

a Tweedy confrontation over covers vs. his songs (timewasajoke) followed by When You Wake Up Feeling Old.

i would classify it as friendly banter more then confrontation Dude. :P I never figured he would play either of my covers going in, Neil Young's "Razor Love" or Tom Waits "I don't want to grow up". But because i had never heard live "When you wake up Feeling Old" it would insure my getting that song. :yes

Anyway it's not so much me wanting to hear Jeff do a exact cover version of those song, it's just those are two songs i really like by artist I'm sure he respects, and i would have loved to hear his spin on either of them.

Thanks to Jeff and Sue for the generosity with their time. it still amazes me how after all their success they still give back so much of something so precious. And to spend it with fans to benefit those less fortunate is something special for someone of his fame. :thumbup

My first LRS -- and what an amazing experience. Still can't believe it happened. Let Me Come Home was my highlight (great job on piano, Kevin!). It is so gracious and generous of Mr. & Mrs. Tweedy to give back to the community and to us like this. But what I loved was that Jeff put 150 percent into the show. He sounded amazing and was hysterical. I don't reeally get alot of the Dead, too, so that whole conversation was great.

And I really loved meeting and chatting with everyone before the show. Can't wait to meet up again -- braving the heat, cold, rain or snow in some line oustide the next show!

Thanks, Barb. Hard to play when you're quaking with nervousness. :stunned Love that song so much, so happy we got to hear him sing it.

Can someone summarize the Wilco-Grateful Dead conversation?

Well…without misquoting anyone too much, Ripple was requested and after that there was a discussion about the Grateful Dead and Wilco fans being similar it the sense we both hit many shows, are very committed to the band and the sense of community amongst us. That is what stuck with me the most. No matter which show I’m at, I get a real feel of community hanging out before, during and after a show with some really wonderful people from all over.
