Wilco in Rochester, NY

Recommended Posts

The 6:30pm start (most likely) means that LR Band plays until 7:15pm and Wilco takes the stage at 7:45pm. So a 10pm (or so) curfew makes for a strong possibility.

Edit: just called the promoter and they told me something like "the curfew was not strict but that they wanted to try and meet the 10pm ending if possible".

From what I can see on the map, the park looks pretty big. I think the amphitheatre is close to South Avenue. Does anyone know where the "gates" are for this and where the best place for parking might be? BTW - I'm pretty new here and am thrilled to be finally getting to a show on this leg of the tour!!

I'm pretty sure the gates are where South Ave and Robinson Drive meet. I could be wrong, but that's where they were located the last time I visited. There are plenty of parking spaces in nearby residential streets. The neighborhood's nearby are mostly quiet, but I wouldn't leave anything in plain sight inside the car once you park. The area has gotten better, but still needs some work. For the Lilac Festival a lot in the nearby elementary school was opened for paid parking, not sure if it will be done this Friday, but certainly keep an eye open - it's across the street from the Highland Hospital.

Anyhow, if anyone is planning to grab dinner before the show, there are a bunch of great restaurants in the South Wedge. Tex Mex is fun, Beale Street might have some live blues, Tap and Mallet is great with nice outdoor dining, and Mis en Place has a nice grocery/deli set up. There are more places to chow down, but those listed above are tested and true for bein' acceptable.

This venue is sweet. Great sight lines, great acoustics, and a ton of space.

Very easy to get in so don't worry about that. There's a couple of big fields they'll direct you in for parking if I remember correctly. I think residents set up parking for a few bucks too.

Dinosaur BBQ before the show will make you happy.

Last time I went to a show there it went past 10:30pm so I don't the curfew is a huge deal.

Jelous of all you that are going. I'll be at Lollapalooza so I guess I'll be fine.

Thanks for all the info. Friday is my 50th birthday, and my wife and I will be at the show, but I know next to nothing about Rochester. This is helpful. We'll be there, and really looking forward to it.

BTW, I am in the process of stuffing the request box with "When You Wake Up Feeling Old". Feel free to contribute... :)

A few more details for those traveling to Rochester and looking for parking.

The Al Sigl Center at the corner of Elmwood and South Avenues will have $5.00 parking for the show. It's a mere block and a half from the Bowl. The "gates" are on South Avenue just across from Robinson.

Expect Wilco to go on about 7:45 or 8. Weather should be fine but hot. Highs in the 90's this afternoon.

See ya later

Check out the High Falls, an impressive waterfall downtown.
