By the way, I totally just bought this guys.  It has better high end response than the stock Fat Head II because of the Lundahl transformer.  It's totally in my rights to buy it as an American.  I have a bumper sticker of it on my car that says "Don't Tread on Me".

Single-car crash with witnesses, so it doesn't seem like anything more than an unfortunate accident. Who would want to kill him? General McChrystal? The Obama administration? I just can't see it.

You are probably right.

This is like the Tolstoy story about "How much land does a man need?"  I don't know how many guns you think you need to defend yourself, that is clearly your own personal issue, but if someone pointed any sort of gun at me if I were an intruder I would get the hell out of there in a flash.

I am currently on the west side of Chicago, which would be considered by most people one of the most dangerous places in the USofA.  I don't feel scared and I don't carry a gun.  Call me crazy, but I mind my own business, act like I am supposed to be here (which I am), I am cautious, and don't do anything stupid.  I am sure you think I am insane for not packing, but I believe in karma.  I am coming and peace and intend to go in peace as well.  That's good enough for me.

Yeah, the same is true for me. I have often said, if someone pointed a gun at me and threatened to kill me, I would say, Why do you think I am scared? Death can't hurt me. Then they would really think I was nuts. :lol But it's what I believe.

I find gun owners tend to fantasize the most about someone breaking in (it gives a feeling of political legitimacy to their power hobby).  It reminds me of when my buddies and I were 8, and we would do "ninja training" with a broom handle for when the robbers came.  It's fun to feel like a hero.

When someone broke in to my house I wasn't home (they made sure of it) and it was probably around 3PM.  They took my camera and my change jar.  Now I have an Australian cattle dog and an alarm system.  No gun was ever needed.

I'm not trying to down on you or anything, but come on.... you didn't somewhere inside of you want to start something by posting a picture of your new gun, without any attached comment to contextualize exactly how it enhances the general political thread conversation?  It seems a little disingenuous to pretend otherwise.

This thread has page after page of posts about guns. A few months ago some other VC members were talking about guns that they'd purchased recently and I lamented that the shotgun I wanted (and later bought) was out of stock. I think I even remember posting a photo of it.

I wasn't trying to troll or stir the pot. I'm not a liar, but you'll have to take me at my word. Or not.

I have no hero fantasies; I hope my firearms are never used for anything but hunting and target shooting. I just like to have a little assurance that I'll have a fighting chance if I find myself facing one or more people intent on doing me harm. "Be prepared" -- I learned that as a Boy Scout.

The bold seems a bit of heroism to me.  Curious to know if you would call the police first, then head over to your neighbors or would head over there first, deal with it, then call police?

I'm the kind of person who doesn't like to get rid of things, but as of right now none of my firearms overlap in terms of their utility. I have a rifle for hunting deer, an AR-style rifle for goofing around on the range and shooting hogs, a small revolver for concealed carry, a .22 rifle for shooting targets with kids and a .40 pistol that's my "I hear screaming from the house next door" gun.

I'd be calling the police as I was grabbing my pistol. Police and fire response times aren't that great where I live. Last week I watched a neighbor's house burn to the ground after a lightening strike; it took the fire trucks almost 20 minutes to arrive.

I live in a ridiculously close-knit neighborhood. We all socialize daily and everybody knows their neighbors very well. It's the type of place where everyone has keys or access codes to everyone's house and you just walk into the house without knocking. (Yes, my neighbors all own guns and no, I'm not worried about anyone getting shot. This is daylight hours and weekends stuff, not late-night barging in.)

Everyone knows when people are out of town, wives are home alone, etc., and we keep an eye out for unusual events. A few months ago my neighbor saw a strange truck in another neighbor's driveway. He knew that the woman was at work and her husband was in Afghanistan, so he pocketed his pistol and knocked on the door. It turned out to be a housekeeper and he verified her identity with the neighbor.

If I hear screams coming from a neighbor's house I won't be trying to be a hero, I'll be trying to help my friend.

I have to admit, I find it a little suspicious that the rolling stone writer that brought down General Stanley McChrystal is dead at 33...

Michael Yon (freelance war correspondent/blogger) just posted on his Facebook page that he's heard that Hastings was under investigation by the FBI. Relevant to his death? Who knows.

Not trying to be a smart ass but what facts are you referring to that are depressing?

Just the general stuff: the number of undocumented immigrants in this country, the number of them who will NEVER be deported, the number of children they have had who are automatically U.S. citizens...factor beside that the number of people in the government who will never vote for anything that could be called "amnesty," and so on. It's been an immoveable rock for so long, I can't imagine anything happening on it as long as Obama is president. The Republicans are obstructing things as basic as appointments, so I can't imagine they will ever allow the prez a "win" of any sort on immigration.

nothing much. just millions getting thrown in jail for undetermined amounts of time and children being ripped from their parents arms. the children are citizens and the parents get thrown back across the border. but HEY its the law

Well, it's looking pretty serious, actually:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/20/immigration-border-deal_n_3472143.html?ref=topbar

A great deal: double the amount of border patrol agents (only $20-30 billion, no problem), 700 miles of fence, and oh, don't forget the aerial drones to watch the border. WTF?! I thought we were broke. Can't afford to spend money on unemployment insurance, education, Planned Parenthood, our crumbling bridges and roads, on and on and on...but we're going to throw over $30 billion...billion, with a b...at more border security?

These asshats never fail to leave me speechless.
