I remember this too! it happened on my 12th birthday. I didn't really understand what it fully meant but I knew it was big.

Me too. Well, it wasnt my birthday but I recall it vividly. Hey, I still own you a package, I've been too lazy to mail it. Soon....soon.

Morrissey is President and they are already sick of him.

Seriously it isn't that complicated.  They guy is turning into a tyrant, even though they elected him and the army is about to take him out and maybe set up new elections.

LouieB

Seems to be quite complicated but maybe it's just me.

So glad this thread has turned into pictures and nonsensical one word rebuttals.  It shows how the level of debate has deteriorated when it comes to guns.  Gun laws will never change in this country the two sides are too entrenched.  I for one just shake my head whenever someone brings it up.

In other news it appears we are again gonna play around with the full faith and credit of the United States.  So we got that going for us.

Worse Congress ever.

A nonsensical Facebook "infographic" deserves a nonsensical response. I believe I've shown that I am capable of politely and competently discussing the topic at length.

Gun laws have changed dramatically (for the worse) over the last few months and politicians from President Obama on down have said that they plan to enact still more legislation in the near future.

Shaking my head.

I DON"T FUCKING CARE.  I know you are capable, but the tread has become a pissing match.  It has become so played out and stupid, which makes IRDB's picture and your comment such a perfect metaphor for the debate at large.  But apparently it is the only thing that ever gets any traction in this thread.  Whatever.

In the meantime we have an ineffectual congress with a majority party that is going to use the Debt Ceiling to enact spending cuts on the nation as a whole.  Or what about the inability to pass a farm bill, or save student loan interest rates from doubling.  Or doing anything meaningful on infrastructure legislation.  Hey what about immigration reform?  Why is it so hard for this current congress to actually work at something?  But let's not discuss that, let's piss ourselves over the same bullshit arguments on guns.

Could be worse... we could be debating abortion rights.

I think it would be better actually.  Here in Wisconsin it is a big thing right now.  There was a very restrictive reproductive rights bill passed and signed by the governor.  Which was later put on hold by a judge.  What is amusing thus far is that Gov Scott Walker signed the bill on Friday July 5th.  I guess in hopes that it wouldn't be noticed over the Holiday.  It seems as though a man with presidential aspirations doesn't have the balls to stand by his convictions.

If you don't like the subject matter, then stay out of the debate. But if you make false claims about gun laws not changing when, in fact, gun laws changed this week, then allow someone to reply without resorting to I DON'T FUCKING CARE.

I hereby declare that the Dem vs GOP stalemate is nothing but a pissing match and not worthy of discussion. We might as well close this thread.

Or we can discuss anything and everything that is political in nature and not chastise people for debating a subject that we may find tired or uninteresting.

Not to defend Walker - but he's merely signing off on something that was already passed by Wisconsin legislature, right? What does it matter which date he does it on? He signed it 3 weeks after it passed, so it's not as if he's ramming it through without due process... Perhaps 3 weeks is the minimum amount of time required to pass before a WI Governor can sign a law into effect?

In Wisconsin the Gov has 6 days after receiving the bill to sign or veto.  He received the bill on 7/3/13.  He signed it on 7/5/13.

Often times when a legislation is important it is signed during some ceremony at some location.  Not to say that it warranted such a spectacle, but to me it is odd that he choose to sign it on the Friday of a long Holiday week.   It plainly shows that he was trying to slip this law under the rug and hopefully not get it noticed.  I mean it may be nothing, but the timing just seems suspicious.

I suspect it means nothing. Last week didn't even have a long weekend.

I am honestly surprised that you don't find the timing at all suspicious.  Friday was a day off for me and many people (and most State workers here in WI, but that was do to unpaid furloughs and is a different story entirely.)  It was more than a long weekend it was nearly four days off.

Scott Walk is ardently anti-choice and I am sure proud of the bill he and the GOP help pass.  He just seems to be playing a game for his future political aspirations, rather standing up and loudly proclaiming what he stands for.

Needless to say I believe the bill is not good for the people of WI, as well as similar bills that in play around the country.  Abortions should be easy to access, safe, inexpensive, and extremely rare.

I am a liberal voter and even I don't find it suspicious. Hell, I'm impressed that he was working on a holiday weekend.

Like I said, the legislature approved it and signed off on it in mid-June. That's plenty of notice for the people of WI. Whether or not the public notices is besides the point - because all of this is public information anyway.

Walker just put his stamp on it. Obviously he wasn't going to veto it. The fact that he didn't sign it into effect the moment it hit his desk is what surprises me.

I don't think it was a paid day off for most people. I worked on the 4th and the office buildings in the area were deserted. Friday the parking lots were full again.

I agree that they should be rare, so I looked up the stats and found that they are anything but:

In 2009, 784,507 legal induced abortions were reported to CDC from 48 reporting areas. The abortion rate for 2009 was 15.1 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44 years and the abortion ratio was 227 abortions per 1,000 live births.

Well, that just shows us that many women want access to health care, including abortion services. As a man, I have to say it's really none of my business what choices these women are making with their bodies.
