Shall we just have a thread for ridiculous reviews?

That review displeases me.

Today I am making Viv Albertine and Kim Carnes do the stock check in the banana vault. They are not very good at counting, keep arguing, and have to keep starting again from the beginning. That is the point of the exercise.

I thought it was a good opinion piece. I enjoyed it. It made me laugh. It's a blog in the Riverfront Times, what did you expect? I understood what she was saying, but I also assumed that some of it was tongue in cheek. If we could go to an alternate universe where it was a similar article but about a band that you don't like, I believe that you would at least find it remotely humorous, if not actually like it.

My biggest problem with it was that it was just a lazy piece of criticism. I don't mind criticism of bands I like if the points are well thought out and/or conveyed. This piece, IMHO, was neither. The author wanted to slag the box set or be a wiseass about it, but the best they could do was some kind of inane list?

As an admirer of well-written material, it was just kinda weak. Or maybe it just didn't jibe with my sense of humor (but I do think I have one).

The author clearly has no taste, as they also use the "article" to bash Seinfeld.

There is no kind of review or reasoning even presented here for not liking Wilco, aside from having some beef with them calling Chicago home. This is not journalism in any sense of the word. I almost shudder to think that someone probably got paid to come up with this crap.

It is a snarky blog post. That is journalism today. The reasoning is "I have an issue with Wilco. It's a personal beef. My problem is this: Wilco is considered a Chicago band and the band members encourage this bullshit fallacy. Wilco is from St. Louis, goddamnit." Some of it is true. I saw them 3 nights in a row in 2008 at the Pageant and remember hearing that banter. Have you ever bought lit cigarettes? It wasn't a review of the album but an opinion on the band in general and on them releasing an rarities set specifically, that was laced with a healthy dose of irreverence. I am a serious Wilco lover. I laughed at comments such as "In any case, because Wilco dismisses my city, it's my instinct to dismiss Wilco.#TeamSonVolt." and enjoyed the blog post,  Thanks to bbop for linking it.
