18th Anniversary of the release of Being There

Recommended Posts

According to Wilco's post on Facebook, today marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Being There.  Surely a historical event that deserves its own topic here on VC!  Still recall my first listen.  This album never gets old to me.  Consistently blows my mind each time I listen to it today as much as it did 20 years ago.  Hope they give it a good run at the Cap tonight.

Admin edit: While Wilco are celebrating their 20th anniversary (1st show: 11-17-94) Being There is celebrating its 18th year. A bit confusing. I fixed the thread title for you, wrp. :thumbup

I remember first snagging this in college after dabbling in some Uncle Tupelo records. I was blown away at how good it was, being a double album. To me, it's still the quintessential Wilco album and has a little bit of everything they'd go on to do in later records. I have an original pressing LP and one of the reissue LPs - both treasured items in my modest collection. I was glad the reissue came with the album contained on one CD as well, as I had completely worn out the two-disc CD version I originally had.

I'm going to get technical on you (get ready)...They actually posted: "Today in Wilco History: Wilco releases Being There on October 29, 1996"

so...happy 18th birthday Being There. I love you too.

Right!  How did I miss that??? That is not being "technical"  I just looked, I came up with 20 because someone else commented that it was the 20 year anniversary. No excuse.  Guess I should take this topic down.

I don't know how to change the topic heading, I can either "lock" it or "delete" the topic, but can't edit it.  I'm getting in the car to hear to Portchester, so I guess it will stay up as the 20th Anniversary.  My bad, so embarrassing :headbonk !

Recently listened to it start to finish in the car with my step son. Most of the songs seemed slow to me now, after so many live experiences. Funny to me how the sound quality is better than the album that followed.

I remember my first time listening to it, as well. Where I was and all and being wowed by how it sounded so unique and how I wanted to share that album with everyone around me. Pretty much listened to it whenever possible for a couple weeks and still enjoy giving it a spin a few times a year.
