I feel Captain Fantastic is one of those classic EJ albums that deserves reevaluation. It belongs in the top 5 or even top 3 of all his albums. Elton was at the height of his powers vocally, and his commercial popularity was also at a peak...yet he and Bernie released this deeply personal, downright subversive record! From the biting-the-hands-that-feed-them Bitter Fingers to the almost undisguised sexual declaration of Someone Saved My Life Tonight, this is about as far from pop as you can get without totally abandoning it (although Someone Saved was still a hit). And Curtains is a high water mark for me. Incredible stuff.Incredible indeed. I love every one of Elton's albums (up to and even including A Single Man) in so many different ways, but without a doubt, Captain Fantastic is my favorite... and the way We All Fall in Love Sometimes turns into Curtains is just perfection.
