I think they ended with IG at Jazzfest, but it wasn't planned that way...

Yeah, that's right Sandy. On both counts. It's definitely kind of a weird closer, but I wonder — especially in the wake of the new record — how much Jeff feels compelled to play it just because it's one of the band's "showpiece" songs and, after all, they have subjected the crowd to a significant amount of new material. It'd be interesting to see a printed setlist from the show to know if there was anything else planned after IG.

Then again, it could have just been a matter of time. (And to their credit, Jeff and Co. launched into IG with just a couple of minutes left in their allotted set time, knowing that it would mean they would go over by a few.)

Festivals are an interesting proposition, especially if the band has, say, a 75-minute set time as it did at Outside Lands and as long as it continues playing Star Wars in its entirety. Because once they get through SW, then there's only time for a handful of songs. And there's not much of a chance to establish (or re-establish) any rhythm before you're done.

That said, the Outside Lands set for me kind of reinforced the excellence of SW as an electric guitar record. I mean, it was fun and interesting to hear the songs stripped down and played acoustically, but some of the material really started to sink in and get into my subconscious after hearing it again electrically.

I can't speak to how well or not Wilco's set was received by the crowd in general, but it was an interesting slot before Mumford and Sons' headlining set and earlier performances by several popular acts with strong female voices (Lake Street Dive, First Aid Kit and St. Vincent). I'm not sure what some of the kids who were so obviously camped out for Mumford really made of Wilco. They might have enjoyed it more if, for example, the band could have gotten First Aid Kit to join them on California Stars or something, but c'ést la vie...

From Banter Corner, the selection was rather limited as it tends to be at a festival. Jeff made kind of a corny joke as the band was finishing up: have a great "restival," he said. And earlier he complimented the San Francisco crowd by saying it was the best and recycling the line that "I don't like audiences, but you guys are all right." It seemed like the thought then occurred to Jeff that might be interpreted the wrong way, so he sort of tried to backtrack and eventually just looked at Glenn and sheepishly told him to hit the sample to start Heavy Metal Drummer. Haha.

I was thinking the same thing.  Not many deep tracks or rarities outside of the recent 20 year tour mix in the post-SW portion; lots of familiar tunes so that the festival crowd would get some of what they expected after 34 minutes of generally unexpected.  Almost apologetic.  The Independent show was certainly an exception all around.  I'm hoping that SW stays in its entirety for a while (at least through Bloomington - ha!), and that the boys don't go to a blending-in approach for a while.  This is something unique for them (playing a whole record) and I hope that many more of us easterner diehards get the chance to see it that way before it disappears.

The crowd on the webcast looked mostly bored. This was not the people who tried to get nearest the stage. I am sure there were big fans up front. It didn't appear to me that they were winning many converts.

I saw a few (young) people dancing and enjoying, and some head bobbing up close. But aside from that, yeah. Though we only saw the people on the webcast.

I'm interested in that Marshall Jeff was playing for his dirt tones.  I can't imagine that it has replaced the 2nd Morgan.  I wonder if there was a problem.

He had the same set up (Marshal/Morgan) at the Vibes show. Pitchfork it was the two Morgans. Not sure of the other shows after Pitchfork. (Below is a video from Vibes)
