Jake
Back in the summer of 2001, Wilco posted the following on wilcoweb.com (yes, .com). "There is a nice piece about the upcoming record on SonicNet from earlier this year." Unfortunately, that link is not archived by archive.org's wayback machine: http://www.sonicnet.com/artists/ai_singlestory.jhtml?id=1441370&ai_id=1160 I'm wondering if anybody saved a copy of it back then? I'd love to read it.
chaslor
The wayback is crazy. Need to dig more, but this is one of my first Wilcoworld splash pics from 18 years ago!
Analogman
That was one of the Kicking Television (live album) (plus film that never came out) shows.

TCP
You can therefor assume that smoking was allowed at some shows in 2005. That's pretty crazy thinking back on it from today's perspective. So I suppose the period between no smoking and no smartphones was only a few short wonderful years.
chaslor
The last smoke filled show I can recall is 05/08 at the Pageant in St Louis. Those two shows were dense with smoke..

Nudie Suit Days! I was hoping they would break those out for the Cruel Country Tour.

I caught one of those three shows at the Pageant in 2008! Definitely in the top tier of the shows I've seen! Probably helped that Jeff's dad was in the audience. My intro to Alan Sparhawk (whose band Retribution Gospel Choir opened) and the precursor to my love for LOW.

One of the Winterlude 2008 shows was the first smokeless (mostly -- I saw a couple of guys clandestinely smoking a cigarette the way most smoke a joint) show I attended. Illinois passed the law before Iowa, where I live. It was wonderful. That trip was also the first time I handled a smart phone, my friend's iPhone.
Jake
I had to google it but yeah, it looks like the Chicago smoking ban took effect on January 16, 2006 for most places and July 1, 2008 for bars and restaurants. But anyway, so nobody has a copy of that Sonicnet article?
