That sort of thing isn't unique to the black community.

I hope so. Does Yahoo allow for setting up a league this way? I want in.

Ah, that makes a big difference. That wasn't immediately clear from the schedule I was looking at. Now I remember -- one of those exhibitions will be played at the Coliseum.

You know, I've been assuming through all of this that both teams would get several days off after their return from Japan ... and I was wrong. The Sox play the A's on the 25th and 26th in Japan, then open a series vs. the Dodgers on the 28th. Granted, they'll probably be on a plane out of Japan by noon Eastern time on the 26th, but that's still not very much time to overcome an 11-hour time difference. Hmmm. I have to re-think this.

Exactly. That's what I hate about all this crap. Who cares what Geraldine Ferraro, Samantha Power, or Jeremiah Wright said? They're not running for president, and when their comments came to light, the candidates to whom these people are connected issued appropriate repudiations. That should be the end of the issue. That said, I'm still waiting for John McCain to wash his hands of John Hagee.

Saying "God damn the U.S.A." isn't going to win you a lot of friends, regardless of the context.

That does sound fun. I'm guessing, from his mention of "Rookies that will play a lot," that there are minimum at-bats and/or innings pitched?

Ah. I'm guilty of conflating several posts in my mind and then replying to yours alone. I certainly don't think these guys have any major reason for bitching. Besides, you should be proud to serve as ambassadors for your sport to a far-off country that also happens to be mad for it. I'd consider it a privilege. Plus, I'm hot for Japanese chicks.

It's not about the finest this or that ... it's the 14-hour time difference that's the issue. That can take a long time to recover from, and any team in the middle of a pennant race would be stupid to want to take a trip that long in the middle of the season. That's why these things happen in March.

The Sox have taken the field for today's game. No word yet on whether the dispute has been resolved.

Fuckers. That's OK, the Blue will be beating tOSU again by the time Pryor's a junior.

The "sermoms" that are causing the current shitstorm are ones he wasn't present for. All Obama said was that he knew his pastor held some controversial views, and that he occasionally said controversial things in his sermons. So what? Obama spent years listening to that guy, and this stuff accounted for a tiny percentage of his oratory during that time. McCain, as has been pointed out, eagerly embraces a man with far more hateful views. When it comes down to the general election, this issue is at worst a wash for Obama, and by comparison, probably favors him overall.

Whiskeytown - Strangers Almanac [Deluxe Edition]
cryptique replied to Analogman's topic in Someone Else's Song
Thanks for that link. Interesting article. I've been enjoying the deluxe edition ... it's hard to believe that Adams doesn't care for this album. Such a classic. -

Seems to me that you're trying really hard to find reasons not to respect Obama.

A. What does that have to do with anything? B. His own racial heritage was detailed near the beginning of the speech. C. Link and full text were provided in this thread's first post.

This is perhaps the most maddening part: Worthy has delayed any announcement on this for several weeks now, and nobody can figure out why. The video of Kilpatrick and Beatty denying their affair under oath has been played endlessly on local TV, and the affair itself has subsequently been admitted -- and confirmed by ample evidence. It's as clear-cut a case of perjury as I've ever seen. Yet this prosecutor, who is starting to look like she's in the pocket of the mayor, continues to stall her announcement regarding what she plans to do. Hopefully I'm wrong and she throws the book at the guy

I certainly don't dispute that Anastasio is a hell of a guitarist. He's just not one of my favorites.

Nice compilation

I'm right there with you.

Here's a bit of holiday nostalgia: Anybody else have one of these? It's basically Spirograph for Easter eggs.

Can someone explain to me why the Pac-10 has six teams in the tournament? I mean, Oregon and Arizona -- seriously? I can't believe Virginia Tech and Dayton got excluded in favor of those two. For that matter, I think the SEC got at least one more team in this year than they deserved. Four from the Big Ten ... about right. I wouldn't have been offended if they'd only taken three.

I'd be surprised if they get an invite to the NIT. That's how bad they are. Insulting the Michigan basketball team is not a way to make me mad. And it doesn't change the fact that "rock chalk Jayhawk" is the dumbest phrase in all of sports.
