But if it had to do with Kidd's salary, shouldn't that cash have gone from the Nets to the Mavs, not the other way around? Maybe I just don't understand how these trades work. I guess I'd expect the team acquiring the highly-paid player to also receive some cash to offset that player's salary, or something like that.

Wow. I'm not sure that's such a good deal for Dallas. I could maybe see swapping the same sets of players plus one of the picks, but two first-round picks plus a lot of cash? That's a hell of a price to pay for a soon-to-be 35-year-old guard and a soon-to-be 30-year-old role-player. If anything, I'd expect Dallas to want a pick or two from the Nets, not the other way around.

Four times now, including twice in one post. Oh, and then there's the sig... :rolleyes

It would have been funny a few weeks back when there were somewhat similar threads going, but only if ction had started it.

Yup. And it was badass, except for that Rihanna chick ruining the middle part. They did "Jungle Love," complete with all the dance moves you'd expect. They first brought out Jimmy Jam in his role as the chairman of the board of the Recording Academy, like he was going to make a speech, but then the announcer introduced The Time and JJ ran back to get behind his keyboard.

There are always things on the left that cause me to cringe about my fellow travelers. This whole Berkeley/Marine recruiters thing is a prime example. Dear Berkeley: SHUT THE FUCK UP. Love, A Liberal Who's Too Embarrassed To Be Seen With You

What if he's telling the truth, though? I mean, I'm not sure I believe him myself, but is that possibility now beyond question?

I should add the disclaimer that I have Treehuggin' Whateverheis and IRDB on "ignore," so my perception of the level of discourse is skewed accordingly.
-
Sour grapes much? While there are certainly a fair number of ignorant sheep in any political crowd (left, right, or middle), your characterization of the political discourse on this board is far from accurate. Sounds like someone is still smarting from having his own opinion questioned in another political thread.
-
He fixed it. Added a word. I'm no fan of Republicans, but I would agree with ikol that his fix is more accurate.

I don't dispute that particular point ... in fact it's been a frequent theme in my own commentary. However, the author is trying to use that idea to undercut the significance of Americans' dissatisfaction with their government and their president, which makes absolutely no fucking sense whatsoever. Sure, Americans have it good, and they complain too much, and they frequently lack perspective when it comes to the plight of most of the rest of the world ... but that doesn't mean that their country isn't fucked up, headed in the wrong direction, and led by a president who's done much more harm

Me hopes you're has a happie burthdayees!

The screed at the top of this thread was one of the most egregious examples I've ever seen of "completely missing the fucking point." Totally idiotic.

No one. They're supposed to refuse to be a party to criminal acts. Some telecoms did refuse -- they knew, and respected, the law. The others ignored the law, or were ignorant of it (ignorance of the law is no excuse). The idea of amnesty is preposterous. If amnesty is granted, not only will similar lawbreaking occur in the future, but no one -- not the telecoms, not the Bush administration -- will be held accountable for serious lawbreaking that's already occurred. This whole push for amnesty is just one more exercise in covering Bush's ass. -

Fuck the Attorney General. DOJ or not, they broke the law. -

Yeah, that's exactly how it went down in '93 too. Jesus. Get a grip. -

You obviously missed the part where that's still TOTALLY FUCKING ILLEGAL. -

I'll let Glenn Greenwald explain why you're wrong: -
Why wouldn't they play those songs? If they say they're going to play the whole catalog, I can't imagine why they'd skip those.

Dodd is a great man. Sadly, his fellow Democrats will probably cave on this and give Bush and the GOP what they want. Here's Glenn Greenwald from this morning on Salon.com: -
That was my first Chicago zip code. If I recall correctly, it's bounded by Diversey on the south, Addison on the north, and ... Damen on the west? Over by the lake it's pretty swanky.
-
There's a billion of them, but if you want to pretend you live on a swanky part of the north side, use 60657.
-
If by "end all be all" you mean "official means of requesting a song," then yes, I imagine it is. If instead you mean "cure for cancer" or something like that, then the answer would have to be no.

ponch certainly has a fair point about professors/instructors. I went to a very exclusive school that was in a position to hire the best of the best (deepseacatfish is there now), but there were a handful of instructors there who weren't worthy of their positions. Even one or two of the good, seasoned professors I had lacked a fundamental understanding of different styles of learning among students, and their methods for assessing their students' progress (and assigning grades) were arbitrary and unfair. But, that's par for the course. Academia is a pretty corrupt atmosphere in its own way.
