  1. I finished it about three hours ago. Since then, I've been attending to everything I'd neglected to do earlier this weekend. I thought it was a fitting ending.
  2. I think I've seen this guy before on YouTube ... here he is again.
  3. Morbid, I know. But ... uh ... fun? clicky I'm only worth $5,000.
  4. Moderators: Please kill this before it metastasizes. Quartzy: Try the search function. Happy reading. See you in a week or two.
  5. Never mind the fact that Bon Jovi's name is actually "Bongiovi"... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070719/ap_on_...le_jon_bon_jovi What a tool ... though the energy drink guy is on thin ice with the "itsmilife" thing. Bon Jovi objects to name of energy drink Thu Jul 19, 10:20 AM ET Jon Bon Jovi wants the owner of the Mijovi energy drink to change its name, arguing it is too similar to his famous moniker. But Marcos Carrington says his coffee-based energy drink is named after his girlfriend, whose name is Jovita, not the 45-year-old rocker. In a Jan. 22 letter, Los Angeles lawyer Pet
  6. I completely agree with him on the camera thing ... and not just regarding concerts. Seems like people feel like they've not really experienced anything unless they have a video record of it. It's pathetic. Also, the kids who were bored until the one song they knew was played -- fuck those people. I see them at nearly every show I go to. What really pisses me off is that they usually have better seats than I do.
  7. Well ... let's just say that, like with Gallagher, you don't want to be in the first three rows.
  8. The humans in my house never fart, but Henry the cat sure does. Sometimes we experience his handiwork when he's not even in the room. He's very talented ... and prolific.
  9. I guess the answer has already been established, but I was just looking at '74 numbers for the Niekros, and I'm guessing that Phil wouldn't have been in the bullpen that night, because he was almost exclusively a starter that year (39 starts, 41 total appearances). Joe made two starts but the bulk of his appearances were from the 'pen. baseball-reference.com is the best thing ever.
  10. I loved that book. It's the only Roth I've read, but based on it I'm thinking of trying something else by him. Years ago I would think about "what if" alternate historical scenarios a lot, just for my own amusement, but I never took them quite as far ... it's a fascinating read.
  11. I only knew that because I used to watch Cubs games on cable back in the '70s when Buckner was their first baseman, and someone (possibly Jack Brickhouse) mentioned it, and for some reason I remembered it.
  12. I saw Willie McCovey hit his 518th home run (of 521 in his career) at Candlestick in the first game of a doubleheader against the Reds on July 1, 1979. That's all the Giants slugger action I need.
  13. If Pete Rose can incur a lifetime ban for betting on baseball, I think this deserves similar punishment, but I'm an old softie when it comes to the doggies and kitties. Of course there are more serious crimes, but we've grown kind of numb to the usual violence -- how many spouse abusers are still earning millions playing professional sports? It's fucking twisted that you can beat up your wife and only get suspended for a few games, but maybe that's a result of the sad reality that lots of guys beat up their wives, and it's just not that shocking to the general public any more. Vick's (alle
  14. I bet you're wrong. Depending on how long the trial takes (and assuming he's convicted), Vick may never suit up again. He could be in prison until long after his playing days would have ended. As he probably should be.
  15. Sounds like a spam magnet to me. If you set a minimum, people will post lots of stupid bullshit just to attain it.
  16. Also: 45 to request PMs of the latest light bulb 4 to post links to YouTube videos of light bulbs 7 to lament how the integrity of the light provided by bulbs has been compromised ever since light bulbs started appearing in commercials 1 to post the lyrics to the Wilco song "What Light Bulb"
  17. I'm waiting for Analogman to point us to an earlier light bulb thread we'd all forgotten about.
