The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension

For fuck's sake, you people. The answer is Jimi Hendrix, Electric Ladyland. Sir Stewart was all on about it earlier today. What, your dope-addled brains can't remember that far back?

There really is a VW ad with blackfolk and no Wilco music

OK, I get it now. I wasn't sure from the thread title whether this was about a fall tour by The National, or a national tour by The Fall.

If I recall correctly, that's more or less what the book illustrations looked like. Or maybe I just made that all up in my head.

Songs/Albums To Get You Through a Hard Time
cryptique replied to Degenerex's topic in Someone Else's Song
I've had a lot of down times in my life, and certain albums definitely helped me through them. I found, however, that the lyrical content of an album wasn't necessarily a big factor for me -- more often I just found an album to latch onto and get completely wrapped up in for a while, dissect it and deconstruct it, and give myself something to do, instead of staring at the walls and feeling sorry for myself. My girlfriend was listening to mainstream country when I met her (though only casually -- not much purchasing involved -- and nothing like Toby Keith or Kenny Chesney). On our second date, I put a copy of Whiskeytown's Strangers Almanac in her hand (this was before Ryan's solo career). She loved it, and hasn't had much interest in mainstream country ever since. So, it's possible to turn someone away from the dark side via Ryan Adams, though obviously it's not a surefire method. I didn't set out to change her tastes, just to turn her on to something I thought she might like, and happily it wo

Truly one of last year's best.

Speaking as someone who just might outweigh Michael Moore, I get more than a bit miffed when criticisms of his films spill over into criticisms of his weight. He's overweight, we get it. That doesn't invalidate anything he might have to say. Should I start breaking out the jokes about Dick Cheney's heart? Reagan's Alzheimer's disease? Rush Limbaugh's obesity? What about Ann Coulter's penis?
-
Especially considering that, as previously mentioned, Moore is now actively attempting to improve his own health.

"Counter guy?" That's offensive. He should be referred to as a "convenience retail associate."

...but I'm a little biased.

No, really. On the floor.

ms yvon, how'd you do?

Which actions were those? The .375 average in the 1919 World Series, or his error-free play in the field? (Or were you referring to Bonds?)

He's working on it, actually. I saw a recent interview with him and he acknowledged that there was something hypocritical about someone in his shape putting together such an indictment of the healthcare system, so he's now improving his diet and getting exercise to slim down. I wish him luck ... I'm in the same boat.
