Wow ... I don't want to be there the night they put 400 people into the Blind Pig. I doubt it could hold more than 300 very comfortably. Come to think of it, I think I was there that night -- Silver Jews last year. Packed in like sardines, we were.

One time I was with Farrar in the back of a pickup truck, along with a live deer. Farrar goes up to the deer and says, "I'm Jay Farrar! SAY IT!" Then he manipulates the deer's lips in such a way as to make it say, "Jayfarrar"... It wasn't exactly like it, but it was pretty good for a deer!

If you can't hire Robert Davi to play your over-the-top, stereotypical Mexican drug lord, then just don't have one ... that's what I always say. (Although I think the drug lord he played was pseudo-Panamanian, so what do I know.)

Looks like I'll probably be going to the Monday 6/4 show.

The credits you posted undermine your own argument. If Tweedy wrote all the lyrics, and Bennett is listed as a co-writer for the music only, that does not make him a "chief" songwriter. That makes him a collaborator, but the songs are still Tweedy's, because he wrote the lyrics and probably at least half of the music. IT'S INCREDIBLY SIMPLE LOGIC, to quote you. You obviously don't understand the meaning of the word "chief." Allow me to assist (emphasis mine): From Dictionary.com: adjective -- highest in rank or authority. -- most important; principal. From American Heritage Dictiona

Holy shit, two nights at the Blind Pig. I don't know the Triple Rock, but I imagine the Pig rivals it for tininess. I am SO going to one or both of these dates.

I hope you're saving the best... ...for last.

If I had a nickel for every time I've heard or read the phrase "the limitations of alt-country" over the last five years...

I saw them at Lollapalooza '94, so they didn't get a chance to pull that. They were OK but not great. Also saw Smashing Pumpkins later that same day. They pretty much sucked. The highlight of that day was sandwiched in between: Beastie Boys. And I wasn't even a fan up to that point.

This is tortured logic. Also, it's just flat-out inaccurate to call Bennett a "chief" songwriter in any Wilco context. I don't see why you even care about this -- I mean, what a completely stupid argument -- but I will also reiterate my earlier point that trying to make this argument based on songwriting credits is meaningless.
-
No, that means nothing. Songwriting credits aren't an accurate measure of band members' contributions. How many Lennon/McCartney songs were written by only one of those guys? Bennett definitely made major contributions, but it was still Tweedy's band. Wilco "wins" (not that this is a competition) by virtue of its two original members.

Nope.

On my PC, I use a Firefox extension that I *think* is called VideoDownloader (don't have it here at work) ... you let the video load fully in YouTube (or wherever) and then rename the file with a .FLV extension when you save it. Then I use an online converter to convert the .FLV to a more usable format. It takes a fair amount of time (you have to download the video, then upload the .FLV to the conversion site, then download the converted file) but it's free and the results are good.

I hate the lateness of small-club shows. I hated it even when I was young enough (and underemployed/unemployed enough) to stay up that late on weeknights. I just don't see the point of having a headliner start so damn late ... at the two venues I went to most often when I was younger, the headliners frequently didn't start until after midnight, regardless of the day of the week.

Nice name, Ninjas. Apparently lysitratabobbleheadsteele wasn't the only one drinking last night.

This hook is still catching fish.

It's been a while since I heard much Alarm, but that was pretty good stuff. I remember listening to "68 Guns" and "The Stand" a lot, back in the day. I'm pretty sure I have Strength on vinyl.

Does this happen often?

Yeah, that didn't look right to me either, but I hadn't gone back and double-checked it until now. Oops!

About coddamned time. They haven't been "alt-country" since what, A.M.?
