  1. Not pick a fight, but one of my biggies is having people without kids give me advice on how to raise mine. Not to take up the fight, but I never give anyone advice on raising their kids. I just get peeved when I see parents who never say "no," because it's a stupid way to raise kids. I don't say anything to them about it, because it's not my place to do so. If you disagree with me about how to raise kids, that's cool, but this is a peeves thread, and that's one of mine.
  2. Somewhere in Savannah, Paula Deen just shed a tear. I put butter on my muffins ... because they're gooooooood that way.
  3. My girlfriend does these kinds of things. I have a "clean-as-you-go" attitude, but she leaves a path of debris in her wake. Our kitchen is usually a disaster (especially the counter) because I decided long ago that I would drive myself insane if I cleaned up after her every time she makes a mess, which is constantly. Also, despite all the times I've told her not to, she continues to throw stuff into the sink that really shouldn't go down the disposal. I don't complain any more, because she doesn't actually put it down the disposal (which would normally be another peeve of mine, except that b
  4. Yelling "on your left" is actually considered proper etiquette. If it pisses you off, that's your problem.
  5. Thanks for the tip ... here's a link.
  6. Premieres on Sunday! I signed up for HBO (again) yesterday!
  7. This. And I'll take it one step further: People who can't recount any social event in their lives without describing how wasted they were. Grow up. Some others (I'll limit myself to a few, but I have so many): - People who would rather accept what someone else says than think for themselves and/or do basic research. - People who can make any situation about them, when so few actually are. - People who are inconsiderate ... as often as not, I seem to find these people at the supermarket, but they're everywhere. - People who mistreat animals. - People who never say "no" to their children. -
  8. If I had to guess, I'd say something along the lines of "Rest in peace you dirty fucker."
  9. link Malcolm McLaren dies aged 64 By Tom Peck Thursday 8 April 2010 Malcolm McLaren, the former manager of the Sex Pistols and impresario, has died. He was 64. McLaren had had cancer for some time. His condition recently suddenly worsened and he died this morning in New York. His body is expected to be brought home to be buried in Highgate cemetery, north London. His spokesman Les Molloy told The Independent: "He had been suffering from cancer for some time, but recently had been full of health, which then rapidly deteroriated. He died in New York this morning. We are expecting his
  10. Good to see ol' TW atop the leader board again. Tom Watson, that is.
  11. Saw the J. Geils Band last year(?) in Detroit, and they did not disappoint. I dare say they'll be better than Aerosmith...
  12. How many great artists have died for lack of health insurance? Depressing as hell.
  13. I could go for: Bacon potato pie Shake Shake fries (why don't they do this in the U.S.?) Shogun burger Bubur Ayam McArabia CBO Croque McDo Bacon roll McMolletes ...but I'm really hungry right now, so my standards may be lower than usual.
  14. I alternate between thinking this is brilliant and thinking it sounds like incidental music for an old episode of "Mission Impossible."
  15. So is his name "row-key" or "rocky"? I've heard both recently.
  16. Giving the new one another spin. Kinda forgot I had it.
  17. Salon.com weighs in... David Simon's magnificent, melancholy "Treme" "The Wire" creator's passionate tour through post-Katrina New Orleans is TV storytelling as its finest By Heather Havrilesky Oh, New Orleans. For most Americans you're nothing but a Mardi Gras road trip or a drunk weekend at the Jazz Festival or a pleasant stop for Bloody Marys and étouffée on a cross-country tour. Even though we might have read a few Anne Rice novels or enjoyed Dr. John singing "Iko Iko" at Tipitina's or spent several weeks wandering your Spanish-moss-draped streets, most of us don't really know you
  18. I quite enjoyed Chelsea taking down Manchester United over the weekend. Got to watch it in HD at the hotel where I was staying. The game should have ended 1-0 to Chelsea rather than 2-1 -- both second-half goals should have been waved off (Chelsea's for offside and Man U's for a hand ball). Can't say I'm a fan of either team, but I do so enjoy it when Man U loses, especially at Old Trafford.
  19. Sorry Poon, but the correct answer is "The Wire." There's never been anything like it on television. In my opinion, of course.
  20. If they go to 96 teams, why even have a regular season? Fuck, just put every team in the country into a giant tournament, best team wins. Sure, lots of teams only get to play one game, but you better be at your best right out of the gate! Talk about Cinderella ... maybe Chaminade could win a championship.
  21. No Michigan dates I saw Crowded House a couple of years ago when they were touring for Time On Earth, and it was a solid show. Neil still has one of the best voices in music. I had free tickets to see them near Chicago in 1991 on the Woodface tour, but couldn't find a ride (none of my friends wanted to go to a show that featured Richard Thompson, Crowded House, and the Smithereens -- what the HELL?). I have a CD of their set from that night (from the WXRT radio broadcast) and it's one of my most-listened-to live recordings of ANY artist. Still pissed I didn't get to see that show.
