You just knew Pat Robertson would have something to say. Is there any tragedy that Pat won't turn into his own propaganda tool?

Chevy's doing pretty well on "Community" these days, if you ask me.

Some people just like to argue about shit, especially if they can feel superior while doing it.

Whoa. I was just thinking the other day that I didn't know a thing about him and should check out his stuff. Very sad.

I can't watch video at work, so I don't know if this works.
-
Yeah, I think you succeeded. No longer autoplaying for me.

Conan got screwed the first time when Leno's 10 PM show started. Conan's ratings were decent when his version of The Tonight Show started, then plummeted when Leno's show began. Why? Because Leno's show tanked. His lead-in to the local news was weak -- people didn't hang around to watch the news, and didn't come back afterwards to watch Conan. Conan got screwed the second time when NBC decided to give Leno the option to displace him from the 11:35 slot. His ratings would have plummeted further, because A) People who prefer Conan over Leno would watch Letterman (or something else, or nothin

Ack! Autoplay! edit: cool song though.

Yup. On the one hand I expect to see a lot of discussion about something like this, but on the other ... I can't say that my first impulse after really awful events such as this one is to come to a band message board and express my feelings about it. On some subjects, sure, but on something like this ... not necessarily. I hope the prime minister's estimate of over 100,000 dead turns out to be absurdly high, and that they're able to rescue a whole lot of people over the next few days. I think I'll go donate what I can to one of the organizations listed at tugmoose's link above. Not sure what

Yeah, mine too. I think these used to appear in the back of Rolling Stone from time to time ... or some other magazine I used to read a million years ago. Always thought they were cool.

Nah, it's cool. I love that stuff. Someday maybe Wilco will get its own Rock Family Tree.

^ That's from the Wikipedia page for Wilco.

Amen.

No. Fuck Leno. His dumb ass was on the way to retirement. He should now complete the journey. I'm finally realizing that his "nice guy" persona is a carefully cultivated image constructed for the media. The guy's a douche. It's the failure of Leno's show that caused all this. And now Conan's being penalized for that? No. Fuck Leno.
-
Well, good for Conan. He retains his dignity. I'm not sure the same can be said for Leno, or NBC. He's called NBC's bluff. I'll hold out some hope that the network relents and decides to jettison Leno altogether (which is what they should have done in the first place), but I don't think those people are that smart.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like Spoon. More like old-school Spoon, really, which is a good thing.

I'm torn about what Conan should do. On the one hand, I hope that Jay's half-hour show bombs and Conan can move back to 11:35 pretty quickly. On the other hand, I want him to go to Fox (or elsewhere) and then beat Leno's ass in the ratings (which he may not be able to do, but let's find out). I wonder, too, if Fox might put Conan on at 11:00. They run local news from 10 to 11. The Detroit affiliate then launches into some shit called "Fox News Edge," which is more of the local news but supposedly with an "edge" to it (or so I've been led to believe ... I don't watch it). I don't know if that
-
LaRussa's a lawyer, if that helps explain things.
-
^^ Exactly. It is Jay's fault. Conan's ratings were fine before Jay's show started.

Greg Maddux joins Cubs front office His role is ambiguous for now, but I agree with the author that merely adding Maddux to the organization is a smart move. I'm sure his role will become better defined, and more significant, fairly shortly.

if you could eliminate 1 musical act/artist

I don't know ... that stretches the definition of "musical act/artist." Choosing him concedes that he fits the category. -
Boy do I wish I lived in L.A. I think this is the first time I've ever said/typed that.

You were a little young for proper perspective on the '80s, but I won't hold that against you. U2 were a breath of fresh air back then. In the midst of synthpop dominance, they were a guitar band. Sure, Bono could be a bit much to take, even then, but U2 in the '80s was about the best thing going ... at least of the stuff that made it onto the airwaves and MTV. -

Seconded. Not so much for the Dead's music itself, about which I'm mostly ambivalent, but for all the jam-band idiots that music inspired. If it's even remotely possible that erasing the Dead from history could spare us from the jam-band genre altogether, then I say, off with their heads.
