  1. Looks like the end may be near... NBC Is Flying a Lot of Pilots -- Is It Really to Fill Up Jay Leno Airspace? By Catharine P. Taylor | Jan 5, 2010 (UPDATE: Verne Gay over at Newsday, who has followed the minutiae of the TV business far longer than I have, furthers this theory: that NBC will bump Leno on Thursdays and Fridays, and that a show like NBC’s planned remake of “Rockford Files” would only be suitable in a 10 p.m. weekday slot.) At least one of my 2010 media predictions came true before I even wrote it — in one of those headlines that got lost in the holiday shuffle, NBC is
  2. Sounds more like the equivalent of Nuke LaLoosh.
  3. He can be, in the right system (i.e., not Ron Turner's).
  4. But that's what it means. Excellent question.
  5. Except that strictly speaking, the question isn't about quality, but quantity. If I put out an album every month for the whole decade, chances are quite high that I'd have been the most prolific artist of that decade. Whether those albums were any good isn't relevant. Also: this is a really stupid argument.
  6. But in either case, it is characterized by abundance.
  7. ^ How's that? I admit I've been scared off a bit by the presence of a choir.
  8. Yeah, I saw that story. I hope the dog doesn't end up with rabies, or that they can treat her for it.
  9. Don't know yet if I'll need it, but if anyone's caught wind of the pre-sale password, I could also use this info (haven't received any word from the wilcoworld e-mail list yet).
  10. Huh. I just read the AllMusic bio and review ... on one hand, it looks like something I wouldn't be into, but on the other hand, it looks like it could be 100% awesome. I'll have to seek out a copy and form my own opinion.
  11. I like it too. I just don't think it's as good as its source material.
  12. We watched Infernal Affairs again last night, because we recently noticed that the two sequels are now available via Netflix (though I gather that the second film is actually a prequel). Wanted to refresh our memories before moving on to the other films, both of which should arrive later this week. Such a great film. After seeing it again, I'm even more puzzled how anyone could think the American remake was better.
  13. Twenty-ten. It's simple: A hundred years ago it was "nineteen-ten." A hundred years before that it was "eighteen-ten." Also "seventeen-ten," "sixteen-ten" ... and guess what? It's now it's "twenty-ten." People can use whatever form they want, but "twenty-ten" is the one that is shortest, makes most sense, has historical precedent on its side, and will win out in the end. As it should.
  14. I still haven't found time to make a list, and probably won't at this point, but I will say that I'm not sure I heard an album this decade that I enjoyed (and played) as much as Centro-matic's Fort Recovery.
  15. I'm pretty sure that part is true. I remember reading something to that effect.
  16. Cubs sign Marlon Byrd. So they got rid of one MB and brought in another. They better hope this one works out better.
  17. How is it possible that this is now twenty years old?
  18. Biggest disappointment for me was, sad to say, Wilco. Their date at Hill Auditorium here in Ann Arbor was without a doubt the weakest Wilco show I've seen. They seemed distracted, and got pretty sloppy during a few songs, which is something I'd never before witnessed from this band. Some muffed notes, less-than-solid tempos, and a couple of instances where parts of the band were a half beat off from the rest of the band. It was their last non-Chicago show of that leg of the tour, and rather than being pumped, they just seemed drained, going through the motions one last time before they got to
  19. Crap, my mistake. I fixed it in the original post. You can tell I'm not from Texas...
  20. OK ... so now Texas Tech have fired Mike Leach. I didn't figure he'd win his injunction to allow him to coach the bowl game, but I can't say that I saw this coming.
  21. This reminded me of another worst-of-the-decade song, but from the '90s: "Counting Blue Cars" by Dishwalla
  22. Hilarious. And that song truly is among the worst pieces of shit committed to tape this decade. As horrible as it is, however, there are many songs that I think surpass that one for overall suckitude. Just one example: "Back In Your Head," by Tegan and Sara. I want to kill myself -- or someone else -- every time that song comes on. I saw them open for Ryan Adams sometime earlier in the decade, and hated them then. Little did I know that they could get even worse.
  23. The J. Geils Band, Fillmore Detroit, 4/24/09 Enough said.
