  1. I thought it was going to be groan-inducing after seeing Murray sitting perfectly centered on his couch for a little too long. I suspected Jarmusch saw Murray in "Lost in Translation" and any Wes Anderson movie and thought he'd make something similar. There are Anderson-like bird's eye views and centered persons/objects and even tracksuits, but I suppose Wes doesn't hold copyright on any of that. Don Johnston could be a more apathetic or withdrawn Bob Harris, and the mood and dialogue sometimes mirrored LiT's realism, though the plot and other characters (their backstories, names, and preferen
  2. I don't believe I gave a definition for rock, so there.
  3. does music have to swing to be Jazz? i could say you answered your own question, but i see where you're heading. Radiohead could do whatever they liked and it could be great music, period, without fulfilling anyone's idea of genre. but i don't think anyone's problem here is that the songs on In Rainbows don't resemble rock'n'roll enough. it's that the album is underwhelming. to the ears of some, it lacks energy and excitement. and when some herald Radiohead as the greatest rock band of the day, those who find other rock bands much more exciting are left aghast. i've been listening to In Rain
  4. some are allergic to twangy guitars, don't mock the afflicted. and besides the awkward line in Fool on the Hill, i feel the song comes across a little flat, McCartney seems like he's working a little too hard to get into it with his "whoa oh oh"s, we know he can ramble much better in Hey Jude. it is a good melody, because its Paul for chrissakes, we all know the Beatles don't do bad songs but i feel this is an example of how parts can be good, but the whole doesn't click.
  5. the first five were somewhat fair, the second five were reaching. i'd say Lennon's albums are uneven after Imagine, but when was the last time someone went hyperbolic about Walls and Bridges? What greatest ever lists do these albums appear on? Astral Weeks probably isn't talked about enough compared to holy Pet Sounds.
  6. Radiohead seems to be a rock band with roots in 90's alternative rock. And some people, like the folks at Rolling Stone, think that they are the best thing rock has to offer. Other people think they hardly rock at all.
  7. so obviously we can disregard the reasons for Gore winning a Nobel Prize because of Kissinger. Also, Al is fat, has a lockbox, and invented the internet.
  8. Yeah, I have a good ear for high frequencies and whenever theres drumming there's high pitched metallic clinking or squeeking or something, its pretty distracting.
  9. the beginning synths and beat to "All I Need" is totally Moby.
  10. Transmissions to Yoshimi are are all amazing albums in my opinion, i can't really put a rank on them. I am listening to In Rainbows right now. Enjoying the first few songs like last time, lets see if it loses my interest again.
  11. actually, i just thought it'd be funny to disagree by quoting the worst song on the album. it's uneven, but i think there's some good stuff. The WAND >>Pompeii>>Goin On is a very solid album closer. Everything before that is a little iffy.
  12. you're a ghost, la la-la la-la la-la la-la
  13. i bet al gore can't telepathically sense your electronic insults and subsequently register here to join the discussion. ..::waits::..
  14. that's plain mean. not to mention he can't both burn off the fat and use it for soap.
  15. the Lips use pitch correction which probably helps Wayne a lot, I wonder if Radiohead does. there were four long years between Yoshimi and AWWTM, so the Lips are about the same as Radiohead in output these days. Bands getting bogged down in the studio always spells trouble for me, maybe that's why HTTT is my favorite Radiohead album since it was done quickly.
  16. Strawberry Fields is still my vote, but i'd like to add: best rocker: Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Monkey best Ringo: Don't Pass Me By best Yoko: The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill
  17. Jesus, I meant the whole thing. Since I thought that line was the worst part of it, I pointed it out. Lyrics are important. I have a friend who cannot stand the twangy guitar in "Ballad of John and Yoko", he'll demand it be skipped or leave the room.
  18. This is a thread about the worst Beatles song, not melody or instrumental.
  19. i think a lot of people would like to hate "Obladi Oblada" but they secretly love it "Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite!" is probably guilty of the laziest songwriting. "Wait" seems like Beatles on autopilot
