  1. heat will be relative, coming from charleston. anyone know if they had any other alcohol besides beer at the festival itself?
  2. thanks y'all. it'll be my first time in chi-town since 1996. wonder if i'll recognize the place?
  3. i've wondered what the margins are on some of these audiophile rereleases that go for $30-50 a single album. they sure sound good (as a generalization, some maybe not so much)
  4. i recently got back into vinyl this year as the promise of high res digital formats (sacd and dvda) fizzled. hell they couldn't even get dual disc to take off. the bungling of the high res formats with too few releases and the format war itself did them in. talk about a niche, sacd is truly a classical niche now. near zero pop/rock releases and very little jazz even. lp pressing plants are used to working in small numbers and remaning profitable. any joe off the street can give em a master recording and get a 1000 lps. some of them will even master the recording of the lp for you. i think v
  5. should still be able to find yoshimi around. picked mine up at www.acousticsounds.com i believe.
  6. i'm staying at the crowne plaza on w madison. how safe a walk is that over to union square? any good casual restaurants to recommend in between union square and madison? any record stores in the area? how good is the record fair at the festival? any other recs will be appreciated but i'm only there from friday through early mon morning.
  7. and a couple of dbt's albums too i think. most of the new music i buy is on vinyl nowadays and then either they give me a free download for the ipod or i burn the album to the hard drive. problem is i have to buy some of the vinyl from the uk or japan as it might not ever be released here in the u.s.
  8. another internet forum i frequesnt is all abuzz at how sound + vision magazine is featuring a turntable on its cover and reviews a few in the latest issue, as they've ignord vinyl for years now supposedly.
  9. no, my brother had an extra ticket but i may not have been able to have made it to charlotte after work before wilco was to hit the stage. i hear two cow was all over raleigh the past few days. first a show at hideaway bbq, then opening for american aquarium, then hitting slims to take over open mic night. new cd is pretty good as well. shalalalalalala....
  10. well after several years a few van engines two cow finally made it to charleston. wow, what a freakin' amazing show. mostly songs off the third cd with a cover of oh! darling, after which they disavowed any love for the beatles. everyone was abuzz about them following the set. it was just too bad they were opening and played a shorter set. dead confederate were great as well. first time seeing them with the new lineup. anyone like spacey stoner rock like mmj should check them out.
  11. got my icky thump vinyl yesterday and all i gotta say is wholly cow it sounds amazing. and its a pretty good album to boot.
  12. easy tiger is ok in my book but it's not great. many songs sound like leftovers from previous albums. i listen to it and try to place each song on a previous album. the first song would've been great on cold roses and halloween head could've worked on rock n roll. some sound like love is hell, etc, etc. i do like it better than jcn and 29 at least. and from an earlier discussion , i don't think he's doing his fake country accent on goodnight rose.
  13. pray i don't let one friend of mine read this. he would hunt ya down for saying there was no shift in wealth as he had a great tirade a few months back about the loss of his family's land after their loss of wealth in the war. sure the really rich stayed rich and the poor stayed poor but the middle class also became poor. same as always happens. and by "middle class" i realize there wasn't much of one then. what i mean is that when wealth is leaving a region or a country it effects everyone, less jobs for the poor, loss of jobs for small business owners, etc. just because there wasn't a shift
  14. true. the way the war was fought in the last years though was with a slash and burn tactic by the union forces aimed at the general populace instead of the more formal types of war with enemy forces shooting it out face to face or encampment to encampment. this is a more modern interpretation of the "northern agression" term that i've heard people use. that the us govt was telling the south to give up its wealth (ie, slaves and the wealth of their production) without compensation is the original reason for the terminology i do believe if i remember my 5th grade history correctly. the nort
  15. he was regarded well in many places he spared, one being charleston, sc. however, those from columbia, sc and many points elsewhere would not be so kind in speaking of sherman. and while this has little to do with the topic at hand, everyone should check out the documentary "sherman's march." it has 5% history and 95% self loathing and skirt chasing. very funny.
  16. i'm pretty sure they are in atlanta.
  17. i've a few friends who's families, now many generations back, lost everything due to the pillage and burn tactics of the union army. they're still pissed about it. i kind of chuckle to myself when i hear them talk about it but i wonder how i'd feel if it was my family. so i can see where the war of northern aggression term comes from.
  18. my wife surfs but i'm too lazy and not the greatest swimmer so i'll leave it to her.
  19. thanks for correcting me. it's been a long time since i've seen a copy of summerteeth.
  20. you must've missed the tour with the heads of femur opening. and i'm glad you didn't act on your urges or someone would have been liable to drop a beer on your head. if you don't like the band go hang out in the lobby or score some weed or something. no need to ruin it for those that were enjoying the band, even if they may have been in the minority.
  21. i'm pretty sure summerteeth was a single lp but don't know the break. for being there side one ends with forget the flowers side two ends with say you miss me side three ends with kingpin and well, you can guess the rest, i type like crap.
  22. cool, thanks for the times. i'm still kicking it around. i'm really worried that charlotte traffic might make the yahoo maps time unrealistic after talking with some coworkers who've made the trip before.
  23. i guess i could just make the wilco start but would miss low. hmmmm.... thanks.
  24. i have an offer on a ticket for the charlotte show next wed. however, i will be in myrtle beach until 4:30 -5 pm and its at least 3.5 hours there. the show is listed as an 8pm start for low. have the shows been going off on time and what times have wilco been hitting the stage? thanks for any input.
  25. side with the seeds, hummingbird, sbs, and what light good interviews. maybe we'll get that industrial noise album someday.
