Wonderful link, thanks. I downloaded that show and all of the bonus links they had on the site as well. --Mike

The Browns/Vikes in week one will also be pretty interesting. I'm sure Mangini has a bit of a bitter taste in his mouth from Farve's lousy play down the stretch last year that lead to him getting shitcanned in New York and I understand Farve didn't really care for his or Schottenheimer coaching styles. --Mike

Farrar's never really had an identifiable wingman in Son Volt though. Aside from the original drummer from Uncle Tupelo (1), I doubt even casual fans of Son Volt could identify anyone else besides Farrar in that band. Not that casual fans of Wilco are going to know everyone in the band, but at least Nels, John, Jay and Glenn will get the occasional graph in your "from the ashes of Uncle Tupelo" Wilco feature. (1). Who is occasionally also known as Mike Heidhorn. Yeah, I am kind of guilty of promoting that idea myself. The truth of the matter is none of really have any idea how Wilco is

Eccentric as Yoko may have been I think she has to get a little credit for some of those later albums. As she herself put it if she hadn't been going to the studio, John wouldn't have gone to studio either. Also The Ballad of John and Yoko is really cool. Rolling Stone should have just published this. Well said. If John and or Glenn go at this point, I'd consider Wilco continuing almost as tough to take as The Who touring with Moon. And then there's the Jay Bennett issue... I was going to try to explain this, but then I realized I have no idea what the hell Jeff Tweedy thinks an

If you've ever seen the Let it Be doc, Lennon seems so strung out and miserable it's almost unbearable. John also felt the band wouldn't try as much on his songs, I've read him complaining a lot about Paul and George scoffing at Revolution and Across the Universe. I actually might pick this RS up now. I usually get a few year, their music coverage isn't great on newer bands but they always handle the Beatles, Dylan, The Stones, Springsteen, etc. very well. --Mike

I think so too, they were one of the few bands that top 40 radio would play during this decade that I actually found pretty interesting. And I think they hold pretty well also. --Mike

There's enough great material to carry two vinyl on the White Album, but it probably would have been a better 70-75 minute double LP with some of the fat excised (I don't know everything I'd cut but suffice to say neither Honey Pie would have ever seen the light of day) and maybe the acoustic While My Guitar Gently Weeps from Anthology 3, and the Anthology 2 version of Across the Universe (which they had in the can at this point) considered as well. --Mike

I like Deserter's Songs a lot and the records that proceed it, it's been awhile since I've really gotten into any of their post-DS records but I'll have to check this one out. --Mike

Sorry that sentence was out of fucking control much like Courtney Love (see what I did there). Jeff Ross credits himself with saving Courtney Love's life because he said that. I wouldn't go that far but I am not popular insult comedian Jeff Ross, I might be Gilbert Gottfried however. --Mike

What would the worst case scenario for the Dolphins in 2010 for you, Bobs? Pennington leaves as a free agent and they draft Tim Tebow with in first round draft pick and declare he's going to be their franchise quarterback or Pennington leaves, Farve retires from the Vikings in January, gets the itch to play in July and Parcells brings him into camp in the middle of the preseason. --Mike P.S.: If the same scenario were in play for the Steelers, I might just start seriously watching soccer.

If it means I can watch Vikings games without getting traumatic Kordell Stewart with the Steelers in the 90's flashbacks (i.e. what came close to ruining my childhood) whenever T. Jack is on the field, I am all for it. --Mike

Make fun of Donna for something that one dude that likes Pink Floyd said, and it can be all yours. Btw comedian Jeff Ross credits his comment at the Pamela Anderson Comedy Central Roast-- at which Courtney Love was stoned out of her gourd-- how is that Kurt Cobain looks better than Courtney Love with Love going into rehab and straightening herself out. --Mike

Because it's about the author's feelings towards Summerteeth in the wake of Jay Bennett's death. It's a good read, thanks to polymath for passing it along. --Mike

"Wolodarsky, go get the keys to that fishing boat, and throw them in the water. No, wait. They might have another set. Just blow it up." "Here are just a few of the key ingredients: dynamite, pole vaulting, laughing gas, choppers - can you see how incredible this is going to be? - hang gliding, come on!"

But take a look out back, cause Courtney needs love and so do I. Cancer for the Cure

When was "Handshake Drugs" (ep version) recorded?
mpolak21 replied to thermocaster's topic in Just A Fan
Yeah, me too. It doesn't seem like they are tweaking the arrangements of the newer material anymore. The first versions we heard of most of the SBS/WTA material were all pretty similar to the final product. One of the reasons I think Yankee and Ghost worked so well is that they had tried virtually everything with those songs before they came to their album versions. Then again aside from scrapping it entirely, I am not sure anything could be done to Leave Me Like You Found Me to make it work for me. --Mike. -

For my money the Soundstage performance is the best version of Handshake Drugs they've ever done. I love the slow build and prefer the guitar solo-fade out ending to the noise. --Mike -
Cubist is easily my second favorite Elephant 6 release (behind Aeroplane), I don't always have the patience to make it all the way through the Typewriter suite, but there are 10-12 amazing songs on the record. But while I prefer OTC's sound is excellent, I don't always have the emotional connection to the songs that I do with Aeroplane. Still according to my ipod there are 6-7 songs on Cubist Castle I've listened to more than everything on Aeroplane, but it's very rare that I'll just listen to a single song from Aeroplane, I always play it the entire way through. Still I haven't answered y
