  1. Influence was probably the wrong word, I doubt the band was going for a Petty sound at all, and in fact if that comparsion gets picked up by a bunch of reviewers I could see Tweedy's reaction to it being similar to his reaction over SBS being called "the best album the Eagles ever made." I think the record just feels like Full Moon Fever to me, because it's a fun record I can put on whenever I am driving around. Like Full Moon Fever was for Petty, WTA is not Wilco's best album, but I personally feel it's one of their most accessible. I could see people who didn't necessarily like their rec
  2. It's either him or Garth Hudson. --Mike
  3. Listened to it a couple of more times on my ipod on my flight home today, and I also tossed Bull Black Nova on a mix with some Eno era Bowie and Talking Heads and it fit alongside those tracks. Today One Wing is my favorite song on the record, yesterday it was Solitare, two nights ago it was Bull Black Nova or You Never Know, I think it's a good thing that I can't decide. With that said, I am not particularly bothered by criticisms others are having it. As hard as this is sometimes, accepting not everyone is going to feel the same way as you do about something is a pretty good way to not ge
  4. Is this him/her Theo-logians. The sig feels a little too much like Chuck Norris himself trying to make a Chuck Norris joke, but that poster gets a lifetime pass for giving us that thread. --Mike
  5. Sorry guys, it was me. I was calling to Glenn to find out if he had braces. --Mike
  6. Oh really? I sadly never progressed passed Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star on piano, so I don't really know a c chord from a ham sandwich as Bill Withers used to say. I'll have to listen to those two back to back and see if I can pick up on it a little more, the electric slide guitar lick is certainly close to My Sweet Lord though. And yes it is kind of humorous that they are lifting the song Harrison, himself, lifted. Still it doesn't bother me quite as much as how similar to Far Far Away, SBS the song sounded last time around. --Mike
  7. Awesome. I was actually a little bummed to find out it wasn't two, two chords, I always thought he was just telling Leroy what to play in the verse and they just left it in in as the line. --Mike
  8. When the next album leaks I'll make sure you get first dibs for posting this. --Mike.
  9. Yeah, I think that's it. I listened to it a few times. Then again this is coming from a guy who thought the verse of Jesus, etc was "Two, two chords" for the first two years he had the album. --Mike.
  10. . You would have been like "when did I ever say anything about Pink Floyd, dude?" And I just fell out of my chair laughing at my new status. I am starting to get crazy thoughts like "this might be my favorite album of theirs," I have listened to Solitaire so many times today, it's insane. I feel like I'm twelve again and devouring Beatles CD's for the first time.. Wow. --Mike
  11. You Never Know really reminds me a lot of like Full Moon Fever era Tom Petty, I think You're Jamming Me was from the album before that one. The Harrison guitar lines are certainly there, but it doesn't sound to me like a straight rip off of My Sweet Lord. It is certainly an homage, but if you're going to steal, Harrison is certainly of the best. Speaking of the Beatles, when I was listening to it earlier today I thought Glenn's drum roll on Everlasting at the 1:47 mark was a lift of Ringo's roll which transitions Golden Slumbers into Carry That Weight, but it just sort of sounds like it.
  12. It's cool, dude. I knew you were way too cool for that not have just been a mistake, I did it that once too actually in the first few months I was hear I was making fun of an Essox/Orkie/whatever else the dude has called himself here post, but I accidentally quoted Kidsmoke in my post . Which is akin to going into a Vatican mass and flicking off the Pope (okay well maybe the last Pope, but that's neither here nor there). I went back and edited it right away, but it kind of scared the crap out of me. --Mike
  13. I love the lyrics on this album, they've hit me harder and quicker than almost anything else in their catalog with the exception of maybe Summerteeth. --Mike.
  14. Moss, did you mean to quote that guy? He didn't post anything negative. --Mike.
  15. Jeff used to sing snipets of Summer Breeze when he'd introduce the song Summerteeth on the 1999 tour. --Mike.
  16. . They should retire the Nudies and just where those all the time. --Mike.
  17. I gave them fourteen dollars, At first I was going give 9.99 because that's how much it would have costed for me to legally download it on itunes, but I kicked in a tip since I grabbed it early. --Mike
  18. Shoot me an e-mail at mpolak21@gmail.com, I'll hook you up. --Mike
  19. Good stuff, I just kicked Inspiration Corps a donation. I hope they don't want to me donate for all the people I linked to that record though, I may never finish paying off my student loans. --Mike.
  20. That was my first swooning moment on my first listen. I think I might have posted "Yes! They brought the Can't Stand It bells back" on one of these threads, but if I didn't, that was my immediate reaction. This is such a kickass pop record, it's like The New Pornographers or ELO, and Tweedy's lyrics are incredible, I think I might love this entire thing. --Mike.
  21. Actually Aeroplane is one of my favorite "sounding" albums of the last twenty or so years, probably because it was all done on vintage equipment. I think the mix of the leak might just not be excellent, the bass is really low in my copy but I can hear pretty good bass-lines under everything. The production on some of the songs reminds me more of the single mixes for their Reprise-era songs, like A Shot in The Arm, Can't Stand It, or Outtasite than the O'Rourke records, but it hasn't been a buzzkill. Listened to it two more times today driving around. My favorite songs so far have been You N
  22. Morning everyone, it's officially up on the blogs: WTA. I'll still hook anyone up who e-mails me directly, but I am going to be out and away from the computer most of the day. --Mike
  23. So sleep doesn't seem to be happening for me tonight... Mine sounds pretty clean, but I have only listened to it my computer, and I am pretty sure doneright got it from me, so we have the same thing. I have loved your facebook status updates, SR, btw. --Mike.
