  1. In the interest of clarity, this thread really not about texting. It's not about lacking enthusiasm for the opening band. It's mostly about that magic moment when Cameron - who seems like a nice guy, really - decided to recreate the episode on his blog. But I do admit to being a humor snob (high-brow stuff like Python, Slap Shot, BBC's The Office, Some Like It Hot, Richard III, Clerks), so maybe the post really was hilarious. Or maybe you just had to be there.
  2. I had a feeling I'd get busted on this one! Can we still be friends? Your post came up on my "Zooey Ward" google notification. I am a fan of Freakwater (seen 'em once) and She & Him (seen 'em three times), but I do understand why Freakwater might not appeal to all S&H fans. I was probably a little less charitable after the "60-year-old man" remark, being as I'm generally among the more seasoned fans at shows. Perhaps I missed the intended satire, but the feel I got from the post was "See how witty me and my friends are!" Not that there's anything wrong with that! Anyways, welcome
  3. I hardly think Lezak is lacking in media recognition. His leg of the 400 FR and Phelps' 100 Fly will always be the most remembered parts of the run.
  4. I hate to be judgmental (yeah, right) but this is perhaps the most obnoxious thing ever posted on the internet. In my mind I picture cool buds Cameron, Conner, Amber, Speck, Diana and Jenny standing at a show fiddling non-stop with their cellphones while wearing "we're so clever/witty" smirks on their faces. And then Cameron later looking back and thinking: "This is so hilarious, I must share it with the world!" Freakwater: A Txt message review As you may know, I recently attended the She & Him concert at Variety Playhouse here in Atlanta. I hadn't been to the venue before and I liked it v
  5. So now we can go back to obsessing on Brett Favre. Awesome shots of the 100 fly finish here. Kinda looks like Phelps' hands aren't hitting the same time. DQ?
  6. Not to make this a "Me" thing, but when I was competing back in pre-walkman days, I kept a couple Skynard tunes in my head: "What's Your Name?" and "Gimme Three Steps."
  7. That 100 fly was like my race in South Jerseys 30 years ago. I led, I led, I led, until the last 5 yards, and I died and got the silver.
  8. 'Office' actor Craig Robinson faces drug charges Fri Aug 15, 6:05 PM ET LOS ANGELES - Prosecutors have filed felony drug charges against Craig Phillip Robinson, an actor best known for his role as Darryl Philbin on NBC's "The Office." According to documents released Friday, police in Culver City arrested Robinson on June 29 on suspicion of possessing MDMA, also known as ecstasy, and methamphetamine. He was released the same day after posting bail, jail records show. Los Angeles County prosecutors charged Robinson with two felony counts of drug possession and one count of being under the

  10. McEnroe tossed from tourney for arguing with officials, obscene gesture Associated Press NEWPORT, R.I. -- Just like old times for John McEnroe. Volatile as ever, McEnroe got tossed from his opening-round match at the Hall of Fame Champions Cup on Thursday for a new kind of triple fault: cursing, arguing with the chair umpire and making an obscene gesture at fans. Hardly the guy who played up his mellow side in those TV commercials last year before the U.S. Open. "Historically there have been more issues with John's matches than the other guys, but this was over the top," supervisor J
  11. No road trip to the Beachland? Giants Sand's there, as well as the PD Posse (well, those that can get the night off)!
  12. Hope this means a few sets at SXSW! Neko Case
  13. Stuff like this is really, really awful. Enjoy.
  14. I think there are cases where the more you loooooove a cd, the harder it is for the live production to measure up. You feel protective of the song as on CD.
  15. The lowdown on that McLovin lookalike: PHELPS' PIG SECRET: HE'S BOY GORGE By CLEMENTE LISI with Post Wire Services Swimming sensation Michael Phelps has an Olympic recipe for success - and it involves eating a staggering 12,000 calories a day. "Eat, sleep and swim. That's all I can do," Phelps, who won two more gold medals today, told NBC when asked what he needs to win medals. "Get some calories into my system and try to recover the best I can." By comparison, the average man of the same age needs to ingest about 2,000 calories a day. Phelps, 23, will swim 17 times over nine days
  16. That's the first thing that comes to my mind . . . Rock Hall will open annex in New York Posted by Karen Sandstrom August 13, 2008 11:54AM The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum will open an annex in New York City in November with plans of giving visitors there a taste of what they can enjoy in greater abundance in Cleveland. The non-profit Rock Hall announced plans Wednesday to open the annex in partnership with the for-profit Running Subway, a production company that has made a name for itself presenting Broadway shows such as "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and "Peter Pan," and "

  18. While we're talkin' baseball . . . A Boner Buries the Giants [unsigned, The New York Times] September 23, 1908 NEW YORK-Censurable stupidity on the part of player Merkle in today's game at the Polo Grounds between the Giants and Chicagos placed the New York team's chances of winning the pennant in jeopardy. His unusual conduct in the final inning of a great game perhaps deprived New York of a victory that would have been unquestionable had he not committed a breach in baseball play that resulted in Umpire O'Day declaring the game a tie. With the score tied in the ninth inning at 1 to
  19. If I'd given money to Edwards 2008, I'd be mighty pissed right now.
  20. He was prepared to take the party down with him if he'd gotten the nomination.
