I dig the snake eyes and the sneer. Ashburn said: "I hated pitchers on the other teams and didn't much care for the ones on my team."
-
Whitey Ashburn is not amused.

A friend of mine has a quandary: he has the absentee ballot - unmarked - of his grandmother who'd recently died. He asked what he should do. I got a little queazy when he said he'd have to sign it.

Oh, not old.

I voted last week. Of course, being in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, who knows what that will mean?

Free campaign idea for McCain. Since he's all about cutting taxes, and since he and his wife are incredibly wealthy, why not offer to work gratis as President?
-
Cheer up. Jerry Grote wants to be your friend.

Whoever thought this would be a good idea . . .

Game 6 1980 World Series. One out, top nine, Phils up 4-1, Royals have bases loaded. McGraw induces a foul pop from Frank White. Ball pops out of Boone's glove, Rose snatches it out of the air. Funniest thing is, Boone instantly turns to the infield and signals "out," as if it were all part of the plan. Willie Wilson strikes out (of course) and the Phils have their one world title.

Greatest play in Phillies history (and I'm no fan of Rose):

Wait, that must have been in 78 - Steve and I weren't hangin' out that much in 79. Gig searches say Foghat played the spectrum in June 78, and Cheap Trick there in May 79 with Graham Parker - a favorite of mine, but I didn't see him till the Bloodshot party at SXSW in 04. -

First show I went to had Cheap Trick as the opener followed by Sweet and Foghat at the Spectrum in early 79, just as Budokan was breaking. Very bummed we left the weed in the car. Buddy Steve went out and got Heaven Tonight, I got Budokan. Score one for Tugger. -

Best news, of course, is no more Chip Caray.

The lead of Tug's obit in the Philly Daily News was along the lines of: "Of all the things Tug McGraw accomplished in his life, the most amazing is that he was beloved by both Mets and Phillies fans."
-
Yikes. Wasn't my intention to make fun of the Mets. Just though it was an inneresting picture, ya know, Shea sans scoreboard (non sequitur, off topic I admit). I apologize if it was taken another way. PS: I have many insecurities in my life. Sports teams are not among them.

Avoid VC? Oh, please don't do that.

Well, besides that.
-
That's pretty much my point. What's missing in this photo?

And I think they would have fared better facing a shaken Indians team than a steamrolling Red Sox squad.

Columbus Dispatch endorses McCain. Basically because the next president is gonna have to feed us a big shit sandwich, and they'd rather be served by a former POW. And my Plain Dealer doesn't pull another Hamlet this time.
-
From the Phillie perspective, I think you'd want the Rays to pull it out tonight, so that in the WS you get an ALCS survivor, rather than an ALCS winner.

Haven't watched a Stone flick since that awful Doors movie. Is W at least entertainingly bad?
