  1. I was never a fan of First Tube, but that's a pretty great video. Nothing makes me smile quite like seeing Trey being Trey. Especially at 2:45 or so.
  2. How is the climax/resolution of a song minutae?
  3. Well, I get the prize for posting the news story that brought back futureage1.
  4. I only have the energy to engage in long back and forths with you in one thread at a time. Let's just say that an argument can be made (not saying I am making it, just that I think about it) that we are wired to want the worst of everything (lowest common denominator), and we are marketed to as such. Not saying that TV stations have any moral obligation -- just that McDonald's really does add shit to their burgers to make you want to eat them even though they kill you.
  5. And don't get me started on torture, and detention centers, and the constitution SpeedRacer. Don't do it!!!
  6. This is all semantics to me, SpeedRacer. War is complicated. Again, you and I knew enough to know that any timeframe he suggested was subject to change, and frankly, not realistic. And yet, it wasn't proposed by Obama as such. Instead, it was proposed as a way of differentiating himself, and in the context of talking to as adults. As in, "I am being straight with you -- the other candidates aren't." I dont think he was talking to us as adults, or being straight with us. I think he was making a political calculation, and it paid off. Good for him. But I am going to call him on it.
  7. I agree with all of this. We only differ on when we think he realized this was the case.
  8. Speed, I was going to ask you to think about an issue you feel strongly about and substitute it for Afghanistan. Obama was smart enough to know, at the time, that Dont Ask Dont Tell would be difficult to repeal. And yet he campaigned as such anyway. He received votes from people because of it. The bottom line is, I never really believed he'd be able to get us out immediately. But the fact remains that candidates who SAID as such, and who REFUSED to campaign that he/she would/should/could get out of Iraq immediately, lost votes to Obama because he said he'd get us out. And Obama knew at
  9. I don't think that's right SirS (and others). I think his main selling point was that he was the polar opposite of both W and Hillary (and yes, at the same time). They were both part of the establishment. He was the guy who was going to talk to us like adults. I never believed any of that hogwash, but I know a lot of people did.
  10. Agreed wholeheartedly. To take it a step further, I also question who is being exploited. The person being dropped in a vat of insects? Or the viewer?
  11. You knew, and I knew. Which means he knew. Tis all I am saying.
  12. I dont buy it SpeedRacer. You knew, I knew, and he knew, that the situation was too complicated and that he couldn't just pull out of Iraq or Afghanistan. This was not some naive guy who, aww shucks, had the best of intentions and was wrong. This guy is the political genius of our lifetime. I don't feel had. I am just pissed off.
  13. Don't you think Obama was just as aware of this when he proposed his timeline? And yet he proposed it anyway - as truth? And didn't he run on the platform of talking to us as adults? I dont feel like an adult right now. You can justify it however you'd like, but what you are saying is that Obama lied, but you knew it all along, so it's ok.
  14. So, he outright lied, but because it was obvious to you at the time, you are willing to ignore it? Jeez, this thread is depressing the hell out of me.
  15. Yeah, poor Obama. He might lose votes either way. Come on, LouieB. That's not what is sad about this.
  16. fyi - from this morning's wsj: Citigroup Inc. and Wells Fargo & Co. won agreements to begin extracting themselves from the U.S. government's grip by paying back a total of $45 billion in aid, marking a major milestone in the year-long effort to rescue the American financial system. ... The government could earn a profit of about $14 billion on its investments in Citigroup once the New York company completes a stock offering and other moves that are part of its deal with regulators. The Treasury Department said last week that it expects $19 billion in total profit from its infusions a
  17. the amusing thing about videotaping at shows (IMO) is that the videotaper actually watches the show through the viewfinder to be sure he/she is getting a good video. And, in essence, never actually gets to view the real thing. Any experience he is attempting to recreate, is actually pretty close to exactly what he/she experienced.
  18. Great call jossack. Carl Perkins is the fucking man.
  19. Well, the first one that popped into my mind was Glenn Tilbrook's (Squeeze) solo from Another Nail for My Heart.
  20. Weird, I just checked out that page and got a stiff dose of reality. Except for just a few folks, everyone here is user names and avatars to me. I know that is a pretty obvious/banal observation, but cripes!!
  21. Not trying to be contrarian here, but my head tells me that's a mindblowing solo, and my heart says there's too many notes. Not denying his talent, not denying that there's probably no one that could pull off what he pulled off. Just that the greatest guitar solo of all time is a pretty high bar. I dont know what is the G-O-A-T, but for me, this isn't it.
  22. If these brain cells are worth anything, I think the Great Went was '95 and Clifford Ball was '96. But these brain cells might not be worth anything.
  23. wow, that was great! thanks for posting. My only concern would be that Arnet = dick and Cross = wimp might get old after awhile. I am sucker for both of those guys though.
  24. Happy birthday, mountain bed!
  25. thanks for your posts in here, tp. Did you write that article? Unfortunately, as is too often the case, I appear to have discovered a compelling artist only after hearing about his/her death. Anyone who is a fan of droney acoustic guitars and who doesnt know Jack Rose should check him out. What I have heard so far is pretty great.
