^^^ that reminds me of this picture hanging in my living room: Edit: not sure why my pic is so small, but that's Dylan at Carnegie hall.

Well, see my "EDIT" above. I spent some more time listening, and now I have to admit that the damn song is growing on me.

Another victory for the forces of evil

bleedorange, I see what you are getting at, but this is an Equal Protection issue (I think), and that's already in the constitution. It's not an issue for majorities to vote on if it's already in the constitution, right? -
I agree that the 11pm start times, uncomfortable clubs, 4 crappy opening bands, etc, are experiences that I have no interest in revisiting. I also realize that this is why someone once suggested "don't trust anyone over 30." It's hard for me to wrap my 33 yr old brain around it, but I guess it's true.

Yeah, for some odd reason, I think that would make me happy too. But musically, I dont care about a reunion without Rick/Richard. That's what I meant.
-
Huh, weird. I had never heard this song (don't have a copy) until the link posted above. Now that I have heard the song, I'd say that the reason it is not on the album is because it's not very good. The lyrics and the phrasings are iffy (screams notwithstanding), the effects feel forced, etc. Basically, it's a fun tune, but a no-brainer B-side. At least to these ears. Happy to have it, of course. Just as happy it didn't make the album. EDIT: of course, give it 3-4 more listens and maybe it clicks and I think it's a great tune.

This has nothing to do with phish (or wilco), but "and in the bar you're getting drunk" is quite possibly the finest moment in rock and roll history.
-
Maybe I am an old curmudgeon, but I have no interest in a Band reunion without Richard and Rick. So, hoax or not, I don't really care. (Then again, if Dylan stopped by...)
-
I was a phish fan in my prior life. And while I can certainly attest to the, at times, terrible scene, questionable lyrics, and overly indulgent jamming, I can also say without any reservation whatsoever, that Phish is a group of 4 guys that love music and want to share it with others and create a unique experience for their fans. And whether that takes the form of concerts with their own songs, or interpretations of others, one of their shows is a journey (on a song to song level) from bluegrass to funk to spoof to arena rocker to pop bliss to Chuck Berry cover. Phish exposed me to bands

Hey GtrPlyr, did you know that Wendy Carlos used to be Walter Carlos? True story. np: wnyc.org

*sigh* At least Bob Dylan will be singing the christmas tunes.
-
Nah. These are the folks that tease me about Dylan selling out to Victoria's Secret, and how terrible his voice is, and etc. etc. They don't get it. And this Christmas Album is the pinnacle of someone not getting it. They think anyone who would like this is either tone deaf, or a biased fan who would like anything that an artist puts out without questioning it.

Nah, I disagree. I think the parentheses are great. -
I bumped into Jay Farrar on my walk home from work yesterday. Nobody I know cares. Then again, nobody I know would recognize him if they walked past him on the street. 13th st and 3rd ave for those of you keeping score at home. I walked past him, did a double take, stopped, went back, said "not trying to interrupt, just wanted to say hi", he nodded his head and (almost) smiled, and then I kept going. Bizarro.
-
haha, fair point. Never to either. And never to some others too. It's just that every person that I know looks at me like I have 2 heads when I tell them that I like this Christmas album. Sure, maybe some of it is in the ironic cheeky way, but much of it is in a pure, fun, cool, way.

I didn't think he did, but I can't pass up an opportunity to attack Malcolm Gladwell, so I took it.
-
Me too. It wouldn't be an understatement to say that E Unibus Pluram changed the way I intereact with the world as profoundly as virtually anything that I've read. After Infinite Jest, that is.
-
I certainly didn't attack Good Old Neon for posting the link, but I have been attacking Gladwell at every opportunity. I agree with you that awareness of this very serious issue needs to be raised. I just found Gladwell's article to be cheap journalism. The fact remains that everyone, everywhere, is ignoring this issue. And the reason they do so is that everyone is getting rich. Owners, coaches, TV stations, ad execs, and yes, players. Gladwell's attempt to compare this situation to dog fighting is a lame and lazy analogy meant to tug on heart strings. Dogs fight and march to their own

Yes and you, you just sit around and ask for ashtrays. Can't you reach?
-
I hope they announce a tour without the movie soon. Like I said, the film and the score were great, but I want more Califone.
-
I saw this show on Friday night in NYC. It was wonderful. That being said -- two minor complaints. First, I thought the movie was good, but it definitely dragged in spots. And the fact that I wanted to see the band playing their tunes, didn't help my creeping frustration. Second, the set of tunes they played was too short, and included a spoof where the drummer picked up a guitar and played/sang Ramblin Man while Tim played drums. It was funny, but I wanted more Califone music. For such a short set, I could've done without the jokey tune. With those two minor quibbles out of the way,

Musicans file freedom of information request over music and toture
MattZ replied to jc4prez's topic in Someone Else's Song
Ok, but it has nothing to do with the music being particularly bad, all kidding aside, of course. You don't see how prolonged exposure to loud sounds (music, or anything else) could drive someone crazy? I am not talking 6 on your stereo. I mean LOUD and LONG. -

damn you Moss! (EDIT: I mean that you said the exact same thing I said (at the same time) -- even started it with "Certainly")
