  1. Yeah, I agree. The 3rd down out was impressive too. I just thought the Jets D was completely overwhelmed and intimidated last night, and the vast majority of Henne's throws were short passes exploiting a D that didn't know how to adjust to the wildcat. Henne would not have gone 20-26 if there wasn't a wildcat. Of course, if my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle, etc., but it seems like an odd game to judge Henne by.
  2. The Dolphins completely manhandled the Jets D and smacked them around good. But, bobbob, Henne threw one pass more than 10 yds downfield. Granted, it was a perfect throw to Ginn, but the wildcat won that game last night. Henne wasn't even on the field for the last play.
  3. I honestly have no idea if this video was posted ironically. As someone who doesn't know much by Donovan, is this an example of good or terrible Donovan?
  4. You shouldn't be so flippant about revealing that someone's foundation is built on sand. I am still reeling from your post.
  5. I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this part. Anyone can like or dislike anything, and there's nothing wrong with it, of course. I just can't imagine loving those artists, and not the Beatles. Brain not computing. Right, except the Beatles.
  6. So let me get this straight, Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize, but not the Olympics?
  7. This is the kind of music that sticks to your ribs. The record wasn't even half-done last night and I logged on to buy a ticket to their show in NY in October. Does anyone know the setup for the movie/soundtrack performance? Will they be playing oldies too? Just curious.
  8. Bought this last night (finally). Listened to it last night, and now listening again. Man, this is great stuff. As always.
  9. Ok, I'll bite. Would you consider dressing like that if you knew someone who lost a loved one in those towers?
  10. Well, I don't really know what it is, but I do think it's mostly a problem with editting (or playing). Maybe I am making the cut in the wrong spot (by a hair) and it's causing the loop to hiccup for a split second before it starts up again. Or, since I am looping a track from the beginning, there are different levels of feedback or ambient noise at the beginning of the track and the end of the track, so when it loops back to the beginning of the track, in addition to the hiccup, there is just a different sound. I'll keep messing around. Thanks again for everyone's thoughts. I hate being
  11. Ahhh, the great mystery of Silver Jewdom. No one knows but Berman and Malkmus. Although I do believe that Berman gave an explanation in a (relatively) recent interview that should be buried somewhere in the vast reaches of the internet. If I can find it, I will post it. Not sure that Berman can believed, though.
  12. Can rowboat or any of the other GarageBand users offer advice on how to soften the harshness of a new track coming in over an existing track? Let me try to explain: For example, I've got a song with three tracks (2 gtr, 1 vocal). The first track is a fingerpicked guitar track, the second track is rhythm guitar, the third is a vocal track. The first track operates as the intro to the song by itself, and carries on throughout the song. A few measures in, the 2nd and 3rd tracks come in together. When the 2nd and 3rd tracks come in, I don't know how to decribe it, but there isn't a smooth
  13. most GBV fans seem united in their opinion that not only is Pollard the greatest songwriter of all time, but that, eventually, he will be regarded as such. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on what it is about his music, his songs, etc., that make him ahead of his time, so to speak? I am a big fan. I am just really fascinated by not only the stunning songs themselves, but how far under the radar he is.
  14. Oy vey. from the BBC: BBC News' Adam Brookes in Chicago: "The shock of Chicago's elimination was greater for the fact that it came in the first round. And greater for the fact that President Obama had taken valuable hours from his packed and tense political schedule to travel to Copenhagen. His legendary powers of persuasion will be said to have failed him, though in reality it will be Chicago's bid that failed him. Nonetheless, this is a moment which allows the president's detractors to allege waning prestige on the part of his presidency. And it will raise questions about the political a
  15. Does this list prove that we peaked 40 years ago?
  16. You don't need to argue it. You are right, the law is very clear that nonconsensual sex is rape. My point was that in the eyes of the law there is nuance to rape because there is nuance to consent. It is not easy to define consent for a jury when a woman who is controlled emotionally by her husband doesn't object to sex. It is still rape. And I am sure it happens very often, and rarely is prosecuted. Let's move on from this. It has nothing to do with Polanski, and we really do agree.
  17. SpeedRacer - I agree with you. My point was that there can be nuance in the eyes of the law. In that someone can actually be raped, but the law wouldn't call it rape. I would never suggest, and didn't mean to suggest, that the impact on the victim is any less devastating.
  18. From the interview with Jeff posted in JAF: http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Music/Blogs/index.html/objID888446/blogID/ AC: The stereo and mono mixes from the Beatles are quite different. Is that something you ever cared about? JT: Well, no. I didn't have the resources [laughs] to seek out mono and stereo versions of the records. In general, I appreciate a lot of mono mixes of Sixties records now, like Phil Spector records, obviously. And like [Pink Floyd's] Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the mono versus the stereo on that. It's more something I go back to now, having spent some time
  19. I am going to go out on a limb and say that I think I understand Littlebear's point, but maybe he's not making it very well. There are nuances to everything in life. And there IS a difference (nuanced or not) between violently raping someone, and being in a relationship with someone who feels trapped emotionally, or controlled emotionally. Sex in that latter situation is rape, but the law wouldn't necessarily call it that. A woman may not have to scream "no" to be raped. There is nuance, right? That being said, the girl was 13, and I don't know much about the specifics re drugs, etc. I
  20. Since stage 2 is anger, be sure to have This Year's Model (Elvis Costello) handy.
  21. This post cracked me up. For the record, I have moved on to Half Smiles and From a Compound Eye. Thanks for the advice. I feel a violent obsession coming on....
