Well, as I said, I could be crazy, and I certainly trust Jay's opinion of lead guitarists more than mine. Glad to hear that others disagree with me -- I look forward to being convinced I was wrong at the next SV show

cortez, where did you download the shows that you referenced above?

We were right in front of Jay, but 3/4 of the way back. I ended up getting there later than I expected. My ears were ringing last night until I fell asleep too. Yeah, I don't know how to describe my opinion of the guitarist. I suppose my post above was half-empty, instead of half-full. The half-full Matt would say he was ok. It felt like he was trying to rip off these amazing solos, and he certainly did sometimes, but other times, his brain moved too fast for his fingers and he was just a tad slow. And it ended up sounding like he was a split second behind himself. I don't know what I

Great show last night. Not a sellout, which is a real bummer. Sound was great where I was standing and the band seemed really into it. Great setlist, and Are Your Sure Hank Done It This Way blew me away. I have to admit that I wasn't thrilled with the new guitarist. He was certainly fine, and I am not looking to find negative things. The show was spectacular. But I just didn't think he was that great last night. I think he's new, so it could be that he's just not yet totally locked in with the band. I trust that Jay knows what he's doing when he picks out a lead guitarist. Jay has

This song is fun, and there's nothing wrong with fun, but I need more than fun. It sounds like lots of his other (early) songs to me.

thanks cryptique and Wendy! I am going to try to score for 9/24.

Yeah, you might be right. I just checked the venue's website, and it says the show is at 8pm, even though the tix say 7pm. So, that means I am probably looking at the timeline you mentioned. Thanks!
-
cool, thanks remphish1. I think i have a general idea of what you look like from a pic you posted of you and the guy from sigur ros. If I see you, I will introduce myself. Or, feel free to introduce yourself to me when you find me. I will be the guy in the button down shirt, black rimmed glasses, and beard. I know that narrows it down a ton. EDIT: or, find the prettiest girl in the joint. I am going with my wife.

Listening to Trace right now and preparing (mentally) for tonight's show. (As an aside, man, I forgot how stunning this album is). Can anyone who has seen shows on this tour help out with a general timeline of the events tonight? I have to admit that I've got babysitter issues. Tix say 7pm. Opening band at 8pm? Son Volt at 9? Curfew at 11pm? That sound about right? Really appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Obama Backs Extending Patriot Act Spy Provisions
MattZ replied to futureage1's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
When you are right, you are right, futureage1. Not that this makes it any better, but I never believed that Obama was about the type of change that you seem to calling for, and that I wish for. Obama has changed quite a bit in this country, but I agree that it's around the edges (at best). FWIW, there were cops everywhere today on the subway in NYC. Yesterday, too. No idea if it's related to the story from Queens, but I suspect it is. And I wonder if it is just a facade to calm nerves based on a story that 6mos from now ends up being exposed as bunk. -
Yes, and I'd like to read more about that subject. Because it interests me. As does that two other artists that I am quite fond of, on the same label, appear to be taking the same stand. EDIT: Is Bill Callahan on Drag City too? Seesh! Make that 3 other artists.

Me too. Interestingly, I think that Bonnie Prince Billy and David Berman/Silver Jews are the same way (and they are also on Drag City).

We need Sir Stewart in here to settle everything down. He is our only hope at sanity.

If this gets ugly, I've got your back, mjpuczko.

What about Junior Seau?

If people like this exist I don't want to know them. I am half-kidding.

Wow!!

As an impartial observer of this argument, I must say that the "Urlacher is overrated" camp is beating the "Urlacher is a first ballot hall of famer" camp. Come on, Jules.

"President Obama doesn't care about jackasses."
MattZ replied to tugmoose's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Doesnt this whole thing just end up selling a ton more records for both the victim (Swift) and the aforementioned jackass (West)? -

Is Michael Jordan just a guy who puts a ball in a hole if he brings peace to VC?

You know, it's interesting. When I played that I had no real idea what to expect, and whether it would be crap or not. So, I ended up really digging it. I always wonder how our expectations color our view of music. FWIW, the songs are what impressed me. It seemed like pretty straightforward punk-ish rock, but I thought there were enough little twists and turns in the songs that kept them interesting and fresh to me. Wasn't just a derivative rehash of stuff I've heard before. I don't love the guy's voice, though. NP: Popular Songs, YLT
