  1. There need to be little things in baseball to keep the balance. To keep players honest. The arm gear gives guys like Cabrera the cahones to crowd the plate and lean out over it without the thought in the back of his mind that this might hurt, or result in injury. Doing so without fear gives them an unfair advantage because it not only takes away the inside strike, but because it allows them to cover the outside part of the plate. And that's why I dont have a problem with a pitcher retaliating for something like that. You may be on to something if your point is that umps should call a pit
  2. FWIW, my point above, about the rest of the lyrics, is that I think the OP (and everyone else?) is taking a very literal (narrow?) view of what I would consider to be a pretty beautiful and anything but concrete song. And mostly because we are only looking at two snippets from the song out of context. I dont know if Jeff has said explicitly that this song is about Bush, but I take this song to be about much more than Bush. I think it is the cousin of Impossible Germany, and what it means to be a country, and what we value, and the GOTCHA nature of media, and maybe even the transience of ou
  3. Why didn't you post the rest of the lyrics to that song?
  4. Impressive, for such an attention whore.
  5. We are through bleedorange. It's over between us.
  6. Am I the only one with Short People by Randy Newman in his head now?
  7. Also, as a corrollary to my "pitchers should hit" rule, there should also be a rule that hitters cannot wear protective gear. What is fair, is fair.
  8. I think you are right, in general. I think pitchers are often considered off limits. But still, depending on how egregious the situation is, it at least plants a seed in the pitcher's head. Speaking of, I'll never forget when Clemens came back to Shea after the Piazza incident in the World series, and Torre rearranged the rotation so that Clemens didn't pitch that series. MAN UP. And then, I will never forget the following year, when Clemens DID pitch, and Shawn Fucking Estes threw at Clemens' knees and missed. I think everyone should send vibes to Mets fans.
  9. Our brains are just not equipped to receive those kind of sound waves without sustaining damage.
  10. I have to admit that if there was one person that I thought had an outside shot at living forever, it was Les Paul. Maybe that's why I never made it to see him on a Monday night. Damn.
  11. Yeah you are right, but I can't think of a better way to drum up demand for something than to tell people that its a limited edition. Not that these boxes wouldn't sell a ton. But how many people that would've just held off until release date, have plunked down $$ already, for fear of missing out? I hate feeling this way.
  12. Call me crazy, but this whole "limited edition" thing reeks of bait and switch. If they can market these things with "special DVDs" that are simply repackaged compilations of stuff we've all got anyway, is it really that hard to imagine that "due to popular demand!!" they make more of these? Man, I am becoming quite the cynic in my old age.
  13. The Jets will stink, and Mark Sanchez will be a bust.
  14. We are arguing whether Youkilis charging the mound was lame. It was.
  15. And this is why pitchers need to hit. For the record.
  16. Youkilis got hit two nights in a row, and so he won. He got on base two times for free. The payback is that your teammates drive you in, and/or your pitcher hits someone on their team. If you are a man, that is. Or, the payback can be that you run out to the mound and throw the helmet at the pitcher, I guess. In which case you get suspended, and possibly hurt your team. Because you weren't a man. Man up.
  17. Yes, bobbob is right. It is all good baseball. Man up.
  18. People get way too bent out of shape over HBPs. It's part of the game. Man up.
  19. At least we can all agree on the important things.
