  1. I am listeing to this Obits album that got some love a couple of pages back, and WOW!
  2. If this mono box doesn't get delivered today, somebody, somewhere, is going to PAY. (me)
  3. This was my favorite part (re Sgt Pepper): "It mostly seems like a slightly superior incarnation of The Rolling Stones’ Their Satanic Majesties Request, a record that (ironically) came out seven months after this one. Pop archivists might be intrigued by this strange parallel between the Beatles and the Stones catalogue—it often seems as if every interesting thing The Rolling Stones ever did was directly preceded by something the Beatles had already accomplished, and it almost feels like the Stones completely stopped evolving once the Beatles broke up in 1970. But this, of course, is simply

    Wilco Vinyl

Just stopping by to echo the Summerteeth vinyl love. Put the (wo)men and kids to bed and crank this bad boy. Wow.
  5. It's gotten to the point where I am mildly surprised when an article extolling the virtues of the mono box doesn't also quote VC's own, Joss Ackland's Spunky Backpack.
  6. Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but come on. These Beatles albums are still better than anything and everything that has ever been put out by anyone. If and when I get tired of them, I put them down. And when I come back to them, I am forced to question why I listen to most of the schlock that I spend most of my time listening to. Part of me thinks that my voracious appetite for new music is really just a voracious appetite to find something that moves me like these Beatles albums move me. As much as I love a band like Wilco, it's not even close. I mean, not even close.
  7. In my opinion, McCartney's solo output peaked with McCartney and has gone progressively downhill since. Which is to say tha Ram is his second best, etc. And I really don't see the fuss over Chaos and Creation. Every Night is so good.
  8. I once tried to start a grassroots movement to rename the "bass" the "Paul McCartnery" but it never got off the ground. We could try again, you know.
  9. No way, bjorn. Fuck Billy Wagner, too.
  10. Couldn't have said it better, and I won't try.
  11. Yeah, I hear you. That's what I meant by lost weekends (obviously, more than a weekend). I can't answer that (fair) question.
  12. I know what you are getting at, but I think that's a bit of an overstatement. Obviously, you don't mean it literally, but John lived those bed-ins and War Is Over and Two Virgins and NYC. Sure, there were lost weekends, and Cynthia/Julian, but there was a lot of love love love on Double Fanstasy. I think the guy was just messed up in the head, but I think he was crazy about Yoko and Sean.
  13. Take what you have gathered from coincidence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gsx6tEXHi44
  14. amen buddy. (as a side note, I ran the NYC half-marathon two wkds ago with that shirt on.)
  15. The curse of MattZ. I may have sold this team's soul to the devil in that world series. I didn't know what I was doing though!! I was only 10! I swear! Ugh.
  16. I just convinced a friend of mine to read IJ, and I think he's the type to love it, and finish it. This would be the first real live human being that I've ever met who read it and finished it. The only freaks I know who love that book as much as me are people who might just be a whole bunch of 0s and 1s. I am not sure any of you exist. Every other friend of mine threw in the towel somewhere between the Year of Glad and page 100.
  17. Haha, I thought it was a contrived moment to get a Television album on Television. I got a kick out it, for sure.
  18. Wait, didn't Cliff Lee win the AL Cy Young in 2008?
  19. Well, I wasn't able to take a better pic of the guitar, so I can't post anything for anyone to check out. And not that anyone really cares, but I have convinced myself that the grain markings are unique and make the guitar special. I feel the pain of everyone in this thread who longs for a Martin or has gear envy. All I can say is that I spent a very long time saving, and an even longer time telling myself that (1) I wasn't good enough to "deserve" a guitar this nice, (2) the difference couldn't possibly be that pronounced, and (3) this much $$ for a guitar was insane. After a weekend wi
  20. Oh yeah, I know. I just can't do it, though.
  21. I am not really sure what you are looking for here, jakobnicholas. Partnerships break up all the time, and when they do, there's a bad taste in the mouth of the two parties. Doesn't matter if it's a married couple or business partners or songwriters. It also doesn't matter how great the partnership was before it went sour. It's just the way it is. I would bet that Jeff has a lot of love for Jay, but he's also got a lot of anger and frustration. Everyone involved here is human. (and fwiw, I think Jeff has handled all the questions about Jay with grace. He has been very respectful, and
  22. I dont play fantasy football for this reason. And I only play fantasy baseball if it involves the AL. Since that's not real baseball anyway.
  23. FWIW, I was referring to the financial sector, not GM. And frankly, this is what is so difficult about "true" liberals or conservatives. They only exist in academia (and on message boards). I am confident that no one would rush to place the "fiscal conservative" label on Bush, but certainly between Bush and Paulson, I think it's safe to assume that neither of them were thrilled with the idea of using govt funds to bail out the financial sector. The problem was: they didn't have a choice. And they did the right thing. Of course, the job is only half done. And inflation could ruin all of
  24. ikol, all Edie said is that the fed govt helped avert an economic collapse. It frankly doesn't even matter what you would have proposed they do (which is pretty doggone easy from the comfort of your own couch). Things could have been done better, and things could have been done differently, but Edie didn't set the bar very high, and she is exactly right. Your head is in the sand if you think that Bush's actions, Obama's actions, and the Fed's actions didn't help to avert economic collapse. Or, maybe your head isn't in the sand, but then, it's in the clouds.
  25. You may be right that George got the scraps and never was appreciated by John or Paul as he should have been, but John, Paul and Eric Clapton would not have been the Beatles. So maybe we are splitting hairs here, but the Beatles as a band would have failed the instant George was no longer there. Or Ringo. (I am referencing what I bolded above). Wilco is Wilco so long as Jeff is there. The Beatles would not have been The Beatles without any of the 4 of them.
