  1. I actually agree with you. I don't like Nevermind, and never did. But I dont like the album because I don't like it. Not because it spawned countless crappy imitators.
  2. Also, NYC Cops getting nixed off the album in the wake of 9/11 created quite a buzz. I don't ever remember a fuss like that over an indie-type album.
  3. Or the fact that it has been copied is exactly what separates it from other albums that are not good. No one copies albums that aren't good, right? You crack me up, jossack.
  4. Thanks Jayson, really appreciate it. One of my weaknesses is my inability to be patient when I am excited about something. I went ahead and called up the good folks at Sweetwater and spoke to someone there who recommended the Presonus Audiobox USB. I looked at the Audiogram that you suggested and they are the same price (~$150). I can always return the Presonus if I don't like it, and I will definitely check out the Audiogram. The really hard thing about all of this stuff is that I don't know anyone who actually does this. So all my research is based on online reviews of interfaces.
  5. I like that, but then, I am sucker for a stripped down acoustic guitar and a singer, too.
  6. from today's nytimes: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/30/sports/football/30dementia.html?_r=1&pagewanted=print September 30, 2009 Dementia Risk Seen in Players in N.F.L. Study By ALAN SCHWARZ A study commissioned by the National Football League reports that Alzheimer’s disease or similar memory-related diseases appear to have been diagnosed in the league’s former players vastly more often than in the national population — including a rate of 19 times the normal rate for men ages 30 through 49. The N.F.L. has long denied the existence of reliable data about cognitive decline among its
  7. Edie, you are on the mat, and the referee is counting, and he just got to 9.
  8. I am totally digging lurking in this thread. I am a relatively new GBV convert, which is to say that I've got Bee Thousand, Alien Lanes, Under the Bushes..., and Earthquake Glue. I guess I've got a lot to look forward to.
  9. If you make t-shirts, just give me a cut. That's all I ask.
  10. This CD is for charity. He isn't making a penny off this. What is disgusting?
  11. Hey! I made your signature!
  12. To say that it's a side effect of greatness appears to be a bit of a stretch. I know plenty of people who are't great that engage in "sexual deviance." It may be a side effect of being alive.
  13. well, I finally took the plunge, and got a macbook for Garageband (as well as other things). And I got a harsh lesson this weekend in latency and audio interface-less recording. I read so much about both, but finally experienced them. And apparently, the new macbooks dont have an Audio Input. WTF?!?!? It took me about an hr just to figure out how to configure the Audio Out to an Audio In. Had to be changed on both the laptop, AND in garageband. Am I correct in assuming that a solid interface solves my problems? Ie, no latency, and louder guitar? And it preserves my audio output so th
  14. It's really fine. I don't mean to overstate the case. But it's kind of big and impersonal. Depending on where you stand the sightlines and the sound can suffer. If you find a good spot, you will be great, though. If you end up in a bad spot, don't be afraid to move. It's definitely a biggish venue for them, but I have been spoiled seeing them at maxwell's a few too many times. It should be a great show. They will bring their A game.
  15. I may have a last minute change of heart, but I hate Roseland Ballroom, and I have been spoiled by Maxwell's. I am leaning to no right now. I am certain it will be a great show, though. I heard they will have strings for the parts on the new album.
  16. Yeah, I don't even notice stuff like that anymore. You know how it is.
  17. That must be it. Seems weird because his description made it sound like they were speakers not monitors. We didn't get into model numbers, sadly.
  18. Is it possible for me to give her the benefit of the doubt while simultaneously taking it with a grain of salt? If so, put me down for that.
  19. I didnt get the chance to ask him what kind of turntable he has because he wouldn't stop talking about how great his speakers are. I dont know how to spell it, but he said they were Ederall (?) speakers? Sounds like Eater-all. I spent about 12 seconds looking for them online, but nothing came up. Maybe I am spelling it wrong?
  20. So, I went to the art exhibit last night and met Ryan. Some of the pieces are quite stunning, but were (way) out of my price range. Ryan was very gracious and friendly. They had a line for a meet and greet where they sold a couple of his books, Heartbreaker on LP, and two posters from the evening. I snagged the LP since I only have it on CD, and one of the posters. It's always awkward to stand there as someone is tirelessly signing stuff. And I didnt know what to say. I was standing there with the Heartbreaker LP so I used it as an opportunity to ask him why all albums are being put ou
  21. Maybe he doesn't find satire of that nature funny/interesting/productive? Do you? EDIT: editted to remove the second question since I don't really care what the answer is.
  22. Just got my confirmation email! Thanks cryptique and Wendy! I'll be going to Thursday's taping with Nick Lowe, Levon Helm, Alan Toussant, and Richard Thompson. Can't wait. Should be great.
  23. The Jets hadn't beaten the Pats at home since Sept 2000. While the hype is completely ridiculous (of course), so is the backlash. Let the Jets have some fun. It was a big win. Everyone knows, Jets fans included, that this is week 2. New coach, new qb, and new D has people excited.
