  1. I think this song is quite simply another example of Jeff's beautiful exploration of our modern struggles with (mis)communication. Our thoughts and actions are so often misinterpreted by others who come to view us through their own biased prisms. For better or worse. What if dogs are really laughing when they bark? What if bees march to their own internal drums or dance to their own music and we attribute their actions to something else entirely? What if you tell me you love me, but love means something different to the two of us? Even when you clearly hear the words that I say, do y
  2. I am now searching for a TShirt that says: The Soundboard Recording of My Dream Come True Just Leaked And All I Got Was a Lousy ** All kidding aside, thanks Warner -- can't wait to get home to listen.
  3. Everything went from bad to worse, money never changed a thing, Death kept followin', trackin' us down, at least I heard your bluebird sing. Now somebody's got to show their hand, time is an enemy, I know you're long gone, I guess it must be up to me. If I'd thought about it I never would've done it, I guess I would've let it slide, If I'd lived my life by what others were thinkin', the heart inside me would've died. I was just too stubborn to ever be governed by enforced insanity, Someone had to reach for the risin' star, I guess it was up to me. Oh, the Union Central is pullin' out and t
  4. To stick with your pun, he was preaching it to Newt Gingrich the other night...
  5. My work buddy Mike was the kind of guy I knew I'd be hanging out with, or laughing on a couch watching movies with, if we'd met at a different time in our lives. If, say, we'd met in college, instead of when we were both in our 30s trying to hold down jobs and raise families. So our relationship was basically limited to 5 min chats in the hallway or jokes over coffee in the pantry. Or a quick beer after work. Mike announced in June of last year that he had been diagnosed with cancer and that he'd be going through chemo and radiation. The prognosis wasn't good and the doctors said he'd
  6. Not to split hairs, but don't forget that Yankee Stadium underwent a pretty major overhaul in the late 70s. There are some who are quite adament that it's a completely different stadium and any references to "the field where Ruth, Gehrig, etc. stood" is complete hogwash. I agree with you though... I dont think people put Fenway above it for that reason, but I might have.
  7. A lot of people seem to think Kid A is their best album. Apologies in advance for hijacking this thread, but were most people who feel this way fans of the band before that album? I mean, did you like/love/listen to The Bends and OKComputer, and then think Kid A blew those albums away when it came out? Or did you start with Kid A and love it for what it is, and work your way back to albums that you didnt like as much? I realize that I am speaking in major generalities here but I always half figured that the Kid A crowd didnt fall in love with this band for the awesomeness of Sulk or Just.
  8. Folks in this thread know that I've been on the HRC bandwagon for awhile. If Obama named Wright as his VP candidate, I'd consider switching sides. That guy is great. I suppose he'd immediately become unelectable, so maybe it's not a great idea... And I loved Jon Stewart's line about Wright the other night (I'm paraphrasing): If I knew a rabbi with as much game as Rev Wright, I probably wouldn't have been knee deep in a bacon/cheese croissanwich on Passover. So true.
  9. Sometimes I really wonder if I wouldn't just be better off in the long run if I stopped rooting for the Mets... I can't quit them, but man, they kill me.
  10. Do the Maestro Tailpieces serve a function other than looking totally badass? Can one be installed on an SG that didnt come with it?
  11. I wouldn't say I have a deep rooted visceral hatred of Kid A. I just don't really like it all that much. If I am in the mood for Radiohead, I put on The Bends or OKC. Now, I think I can say InRainbows too. I'd be interested to hear what half of Kid A he thinks (or you think) could fit within OKC.
  12. Do the folks who loved this album when it first came out still think it holds up? I am curious... I think I am the reverse. I didn't like it all that much when it came out, but I spun it this morning for the first time since it was released when I spun it quite a bit and I liked it much more than I remember. I am a fan who lost my way after OK Computer. Nothing will top The Bends and OK Computer for me, but i can dig on In Rainbows.
  13. This will always make me smile. The dude who got this on video was standing right next to me.
  14. I've thought about it. I think you could make an argument that requiring photo IDs to buy a gun violates the 2nd Amendment. I am not sure I'd agree with the argument, but I can see the argument. When you restrict the right to vote to prevent fraud, and there are other effective ways to prevent fraud that would not restrict the right to vote, then I don't think you have an argument. Obviously, the Supreme Court and Indiana and you, disagree with me.
  15. Now you've lost me. The issue here has to do with ensuring that all people -- smart or dumb -- have the fundamental right to participate in the process of electing the government by which they will be governed. As a general matter, a law that ends up restricting the fundamental rights of some citizens but not others violates the Equal Protection Clause. Especially when there are other ways to skin the proverbial cat. Requiring all people to file their taxes -- even if they are difficult -- does not violate the 14th Amendment because filing difficult tax returns does not implicate any fund
  16. Yes. Some states (I think) allow you to register to vote when you walk in to a polling spot. Your friend, you brother, your pastor, your [insert name] can drive you to vote on election day. You are asking a lot of questions in this thread. Let me ask you one. Do you really need a photo ID to prevent fraud? What about the process that NY uses that I stated above? If fraud can be prevented without a photo ID, why not do that? Let me ask you another question... Do you think the 14th Amendment is not applicable here?
  17. Yep, just gave a quick read of the dissent. Looks like a few of the justices thought the 1st and 14th amendments were implicated here...
  18. Yes, but don't put it on me. The constitution already did that. And where are you drawing the line on dumb anyway? Should folks have to be literate to vote? Should they know how many representatives serve in the House? How many people in this country voted for Bush because they thought he'd be the better guy to have a beer with? Are we really going to get into how dumb voters are? I havent read the briefs filed for the case, but I'd be willing to bet there was an equal protection argument and a due process argument as well. You dont need to shoehorn this into "tax" to suit anyone'
