Isn't it time for a new election thread?!
Edie replied to remphish1's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
What is "fair"? I agree you should have enough to pay off your own debt, have a nice house and car, and attend as many wilco shows as you can -- which you can easily do without going over the $250K per year threshold (esp in AR may I add). However, if you should go over that $250K annually (and if I am correct -- the $250 is annual income, not net worth), would it be so awful to pay higher taxes than someone making less? -

Willy, are you really in it just for the money? -

The only thing that I don't like about Obama's plan is dipping into an already battered 401K or IRA would not benefit most people in the long run. Maybe only if all other sources of funds are exhausted; not for most people. -
Heh, I could get the buy sign from him ANY MINUTE!1!!!

No. One day's up market does not a sustained increase make.

I understnad how people have different opinions on this election; I even like most of them regardless of their opinions (and sometimes because of them, as I like to see the "other side's" perspectives on things). And I am talking about non-board friends BTW. -

Different daughter. Bristol is the one that is pregnant -- I think the ones in the video are Willow and Piper. -
I don't think anyone will be able to "miss" the rise And right now, when that will happen is anyone's guess. I surely am hoping soon.

Actually, we are out of the market now. Interestingly, he has had "buy signals" more than once in the last week or so, only to be rapidly followed by sell signals (neither time did we buy; we were already sold). I think his strategy right now is just to wait until the volatility mostly wears itself out. This might be some time.

He doesn't look like he's sick since he can afford all the expensive drugs that have kept him alive. He's still HIV positive, though I don't think he ever had full-blown AIDS or HIV related syndrome.

My brother's strategy is not to look for the bottom, rather buy into the market when it is moving up after being down. Buying is done after selling when the market indicates a broad move down (which is what we just did).
-
Tell that to my brother. He's a professional and has his own investment firm with happy investors. I am just one of them.
-
Except that at some point the indicators will say buy, and we will -- for far less than what we sold at, and we will make more money than the tiny short term loss we took. The idea is to always minimize losses -- and you will always make more than you would if you stayed in for each full loss. And I am talking long term investments.

The thought makes me cringe though -
My brother is a market timer. His indicators suggested we sell 3 weeks ago, which we did. His point is that you should never lose capital if you don't have to.

So you have palled around with Jeff Tweedy then As far as the campaign tacitly approving of the label of "terrorist" for Obama (and the underlying racism), this will likely backfire. IMHO, it will end up losing votes for McCain. I know two people (republicans) who are on the fence, and this has repulsed them -- and they are now pretty much in the Obama camp. -

QFT. I just hope that regular folks recognize this for what it is and reject it as politics of fear and loathing. The cretins will head back into the woodwork (hopefully). Have I told you lately how much I love you? -

Though I haven't seen them, I don't feel like I have to in order to know what they say. I would like to know what our resident righties think of this (and what the effect will be). Ikol? Jules? JUDE? Tweedling? Do you think that this will help or hurt McCain's cause? (BTW -- I have met all of you but JUDE and I know that none of you are like this.) -
Holy Crap. JD Power is talking about a "total collapse" of the auto industry in 2009 with virutally every market worldwide contracting. New car dealer numbers here in the US may contract by 5%.

I think everyone who is old enough to vote should vote, regardless of party affiliation. My very republican grandparents used to take their cook and housemaid to the polling place, knowing full well that they would vote democratic. I believe in this too. -

Look at the changes in the Electoral College rankings since 9/17 -- Obama hasn't lost ground and McCain has only lost it or just stayed even. Nearly every change has shifted the race toward Obama. 10/09 Virginia Toss Up -
I am personally sorry that the race has deteriorated to this, but as I said, I feel McCain has initiated it. The situation is regrettable, but I swear, there will be no swift-boating this election.
