  1. There will be a debate tomorrow, unless mccain can't get his campaign up and running by then.
  2. Not to mention that "suspending his campaign" sounds like what he really wants is to delay the election -- which messes with orderly change of power. What a stunt.
  3. I got a 23 or something. Some of those shades are ridiculously close to the other ones; it seemed to make no difference to me which order they were in.
  4. Right now the markets feel somewhat placated (note that I said "feel". Markets are emotional). Yes the NYSE was down 175 or so today, but it's still within 1 or 2% of the start of last week. So for right this second (and the market feels like second to second at this point), time should be taken to get this right.
  5. The McCains file separately. That might be it. FYI -- Teresa Heinz had it before she married Kerry as well.
  6. Maybe some of the footage will become an extra with the new CD -- or incorporated somehow.
  7. Unless he's living in AK. Which is my daily hope and prayer.
  8. Another Mrs. Browning sighting -- hi Anna!
  9. I don't venture in here that often, but was just listening to some vintage Cat Stevens and man that guy was (is) good.
  10. I would love to have it too (my first outside US Wilco show). But recording is an art, and when it isn't right, then it isn't worth it. See if there are other shows from that leg -- better to have a good recording of a different show than a sub-standard one of this show.
  11. I understand from W (though its been a while since we spoke) that the recording ended up being below his standards.
  12. Happy birthday David -- my favorite conservative thermometer
  13. Interesting. It took years for weed to affect me like that, which is why I don't smoke except for very occasionally. Weed is also much stronger now than I was when I was a youngin. So now, we are avoiding a complete collapse of our financial system with a bailout of proportions never seen before. What remains to be seen is whether or not "main street" folks will be part of the bailout or will be left with foreclosure and bankruptcy. Some of these people deserve bailing out, others don't. But I think you could say the same of the banks that will be lining up for the $$ put forth, largely as t
  14. If I am correctly understanding the structure of the proposed bailout (and agency), this could actually end up being profitable for the taxpayers/government and eventually the income could help paydown the pre-existing debt. Think about it -- AIG or Fannie/Freddie selling for the pennies on the dollars that they were sold at would have been unheard of just 12 months ago. Eventually, home prices will rebound, which will more than fund these purchases. Frankly, the situation has the free-market folks by the short and curlies and now they (and we) literally have to accept whatever terms come do
  15. This guy is a heart attack waiting to happen.
  16. The thing is -- the money has always largely been on paper. If you borrow $X for 30 years for a home (because its valued to be at least X) and after 2 years your home value is estimated to be $X+Y but you don't sell-- that increase of Y is just on paper. The biggest problem is that the + is becoming a - for many people.
  17. I fell asleep pretty soon after the Clinton/Palin bit. Didn't miss much apparently. Phelps seemed like a fish out of water .
  18. Giving money helps me feel better, so if you haven't given, Obama is doing a matching campaign, so join now and maybe we'll be matched!
  19. There is going to be a lot of pain for many people before this shakes out. Our story is that we just got an equity loan so we can remodel our kitchen (since we can't move) and I think we have now maxed out the amount that we can borrow -- or pretty close to it. Last year we had a sizable cushion. There has been ($billions? $trillions?) lost nationwide in home values -- to where this whole mess can traced.
  20. I understand some but not all of this mess. This article helped me to better understand it. Even if you are not invested, the movements this weekend and over the last 15 months are affecting home values and the ability to get mortgages and equity loans. In other words, we're pretty messed up. As I understand it, basically, banks are having less luck selling the future profits on loans (Mortgage Backed Securities) because the recent subprime meltdown made previous investments worth less than the amount promised, thus messing with investor confidence for future investment. Even with back
  21. Holy crap. This is huge for all of us. Fasten your seat belts.
  22. Really. Based on both of what I know about Cryptique (and how genuinely nice he is) and the contents of that specific post, I disagree.
  23. I still don't think anyone was making fun. Did you see that part? I don't think Jack meant anything nasty with his. Poon = Neil = whatdidisay. Sistersooie and Neil are friends.
  24. Yeah, but it was Reagan that began my journey into the democratic party. The Iran-contra mess was the kicker. Alito and Roberts are both very conservative. Yes, but neither Gore nor Kerry won. This is bullshit -- the current feint and parry ads and strategy is purely Rovian. The lack of access to a VP candidate, and the immediate, vociferous complaining about anything that is said or insinuated about about her is unprecedented. He is clearly helping. I heard something yesterday about how O'Reilly respects him, but is not for him. I looked on his site but couldn't find a li
