My thoughts exactly. I'm not aware of anyone yucking it up here. Neil (whatdidisay) was making jokes in the ummm forum so it carried into this thread. Many vibes to all those down there, though I do have to say that anyone who stays when there is a mandatory evacuation order is foolish.

I definitely lean more left, and way more so in recent years as the republican party increasingly lost me in their fog of religious righteousness. I voted for Dukakis, Clinton x2, Gore and Kerry (and Obama).
-
I don't vote straight democratic. I voted for Reagan twice for instance.

Great post Louie -- I do think that there would have been major differences between a president Al and the current president George -- and their names are Alito and Roberts. Lammy, if you like a balanced Supreme Court (which to be honest, I do), then you really need to vote for Obama, as at least two supremes will retire in the next 4 years. Your vote in CO matters way more than JC4Pres here in IL. bobbob, same for you.

Ugh -- this is awful Many vibes to those involved

Oh but I am Seriously, Lowell (or the remnants) are near Lubbock, right? That's gotta be kinda near the panhandle!
-
You too Tweeds -- Lowell is in your 'hood right? Remember, Obama is counting on your vote!!

From The Nation -- now this is even more frightening -- she seems to need a current events lesson as the Iraq war is not over as she has no idea how it began. And yes, I could care less that it is a woman that is clueless.

Many vibes to those in TX. This thing is taking up a quarter of the Gulf, so anyone on the TX coast is going to feel it. Poonie -- get to hunkering stat!

PS. I hope this is construed to be humor

And U2's Walk On.... I think it is on there too, right?

One of the reasons I love the public school my son goes to here in Chicago is because there are supposedly more than 20 languages spoken at home by families. I say "supposedly" since that is what I heard and I have not actually counted myself.

My husband and I heard about the first plane from a neighbor as we were taking our son to maybe his second or third day of pre-school. We were still in the car (I was just getting out of it with Jake) as we were listening to the radio (WXRT here in Chicago) when they announced that the second plane had hit the South Tower. Like everyone, my blood went cold as I realized that the initial collision was not a fluke, and that we were under attack. I somehow managed to drop Jake off and leave him there as the school said that they would go on with the morning program (3-6 year olds -- Montessori) t

What if he were a laissez-faire capitalist and a muslim?

I knew that but am genuinely interested in the answer, which is why I asked.

Would that on its own change your vote?

Just read this in The New Republic. Pretty much bears out what I posted earlier:

I think that if anything, the last couple of weeks are a great wakeup call to the Obama campaign and its supporters that this will not be a cake walk. If you believe in his campaign, give your money and your time now. I do think that he is smart enough to figure this out -- and that he will win in November. Palin is going home to learn about foreign policy and the economy and everything else before her debate. McCain will be on the road for a while by himself -- so it will be interesting to see if the crowds and the media keep her in the headlines.

One thing that seems underplayed is how the city ended up all white. There was only a page or so on that (at least so far; I'm on page 200 or so). Being a Chicagoan, I did know about the Ferris wheel, so that part was relatively ant-climactic for me And agreed on the Devil/Fair pieces being tied together -- too gory and probably more dry than needed if separated.

I think there are plenty of other issues to talk about. Here are a few: War in Iraq War in Afganistan Economy Education Healthcare Social security Equal pay

What if you are raped?

Never mind -- Thanks norbs for posting that. I don't want to be part of the problem.

From an email from my mom. This states the quotes were reported by the Anchorage Daily News in '06, but I don't know that for sure.

I am certainly hoping that as more facts and realities about Palin and her beliefs come to light, that 20 point number will dwindle.
