I think they said their new record is coming out in the fall.

  2. Time flies when you're arguing about Wilco! I was just a boy the first time I came to Via Chicago, now.... I'm a childish man. I owe a lot of music discovery to this place and it's members, so thank you everyone. Happy 20th anniversary, VC. Here's to 20 more years!

I have Amazon Prime, but not Music...

I didn't even see a way to pay to download them...

    Am I missing something?

I only have Prime but it still let me stream the songs, not sure if downloading is an option though.

  4. I'd imagine it's still JT's words but it's probably helpful to have someone proof read it, make sure it all makes sense, spelled correctly, everything in it is accurate, etc. A second set of eyes is helpful especially when there's the pressure of paying clients!

  5. Hey folks, sadly with the US border not opening and Canadians still being barred from attending Wilco shows, I will not be able to use my tickets to the Sept 18th Wilco show that I've had for *checks calendar* 18 months! My loss is your gain as these are pretty decent seats.

    Sec 103, Row C, Seats 5 and 6

Just looking for what we paid... 230 USD will get you both of them. They're virtual tickets so my wife can transfer them to you.

It was cool to see Nels throwing peppermint candies at his jazzmaster for no clear reason. I liked that.

I'm going to be spending my entire first listen of the next Wilco record trying to hear those peppermints in the mix.

  7. I just got these records. Thanks to the very special Bull Black Nova enthusiast fan who helped me out!

Agreed with arjaykay, both songs are clearly from the Ode to Joy sessions, and either one could easily slide onto that record. In fact, the sleeve is made out of the pages of the OTJ deluxe edition book, like the Chicago version of OTJ was.

As we already know, Half Life really a good song and this full band version is a treat. It has a mandolin sounding acoustic guitar doing some nice lead (I imagine a high capo'd acoustic from Nels??). The strong, non-cymbal drums that Ode to Joy is known for are present. There's some pump organ sounds and a buzzy string instrument that I would hesitate to call a sitar but I don't know what it is. (I think there'e a similar instrument on Quiet Amplifier)

I Can't, is in my opinion, even better and frankly I think it should have made the album, though I don't know what in place of. It's upbeat and catchy (for OTJ) though not as much as Everyone Hides or Hold Me Anyway. It still sounds like Ode to Joy but I think would have added a different aspect to the record. Maybe, ultimately, Jeff and co just figured it was too different. IMO, and if you listen to Alpha Bravo Charlie you know I occasionally overvalue some of the more obscure songs (allegedly),

Modern Girl is a pretty good cover. They make it their own while also staying true to the original. Nels has some very Nels guitar parts at the end.

A Shot In The Arm is pretty much the same approach but I think it's even better. It has the urgency that a lot of fans have been claiming was missing on the most recent two S-K records.

Hopefully all four songs come to Spotify soon or they put the remaining records up on the Wilco Store!

  8. I know it's all been available for non-subs but if it wasn't, the demos alone that Jeff has shared have definitely been worth the price of the subscription. I've enjoyed the writing too! But I do expect it will evolve as Jeff figures out the formats and what works best.

  9. Yesterday I watched a couple of old scifi movies I'd never seen before.

    Blade Runner The Final Cut

-This movies oozes style and mood. It's a little slower paced than it should be but I was captivated in the world it created. Harrison Ford is great but how awesome was that "tears in the rain" speech at the end??

    Alien

-This one was even better than Blade Runner. A seriously well put together movie. It's amazing how much better this movie from 1979 looks with it's practical effects than a movie 20+ years later does like Attack of the Clones. Even though I had never seen Alien before I recognized so much of it from popculture... for instance as soon as they sat down for that last meal I knew something was going to pop out of John Hurt's chest, probably because I've seen it parodied or referenced so many times before. It's an effective sci-fi movie AND horror movie. They could have gone bigger with it but they didn't and I really appreciate that, you just don't see major films these days like that unless it's an indie film like something A24 does. The scene where they broke quarantine procedures and brought John Hurt's character on the ship, hits hard after 2020.

  10. FWIW, and this is obviously anecdotal, but I was confused a few weeks ago when Vince mentioned to me Wilco playing Merriweather Post Pavilion. I just know that name as an Animal Collective album. As a foreigner from a distant land, who's into music, I feel like if someone like me is aware of a venue then that's probably a good indication of it's "legendary" status, like the Hollywood Bowl, Red Rocks, First Ave, etc. But maybe in this situation that's just on me.

Anyways, appreciate the recap as always bbop!

  11. I think the other single is actually a Wilco single, not a JT single (maybe Jeff's bonus single from LITK is there too?? But that's on the Wilco store too.) Someone posted pictures of it on the Facebook group, but I can't find it now because Facebook's search features are hot trash. But the A side was definitely Half Life, the Ode to Joy outtake Jeff had played on TTS. The B-side I didn't immediately recognize.
