Hahaha, that makes perfect sense now.

I might disagree with you there, but they are both excellent songs.

The K.K.K. must be allowed to march. But having an authority figure/policeman in the organization is not a free-speech issue. If you can guarantee that he won't discriminate, fine. But how do you do that? He should be out of a job. Let him get one somewhere else where impartiality isn't required for daily function. How do you do your job to guarantee that all men and women deserve the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness, when you belong to an organization that explicitly disagrees? Imagine if a Muslim policeman was an admitted member of a terrorist organization. The whole country wo

That's the way I feel too. And I love the background singers. Great sound.

I can agree with you to an extent- I don't think it has exactly "a timeless quality." Even if his points about war will always be relevant, the more specific references probably won't matter as much when the war is over. That being said, it's all perfectly relevant now. The war hasn't stopped yet, even if the buzz about this album did a few months ago. And we'll hit 3,000 in November. That's basically equivalent to all of the fathers in my town.

I really like this CD; it's simple, but it's a grower. Absolutely, totally listenable. Moreso than Modern Times, I think. It might even make my top 10 or 20 (depending on whether I can list 20 newly-released CDs that I heard this year). At first it seems kind of haphazard and under-realized. But now that I listen to it more, I know that urgency and grief are the most important factors here. And the lyrics are pretty good, even if they're simple. Even the "hippie highway" lyric doesn't bother me much- because it's about something larger. I was thinking a while back about how dull Mirrorball

One time, in the old days when Jeff sometimes posted here, I sent him a PM that said "Hey," and he said "Hey yerself."

Thanks again, this looks like a gem.

Is that something like this?

So I have the Wilco version of Any Major Dude Will Tell You

Sweet. Thanks, Wendy McWenderson! -
So I have the Wilco version of Any Major Dude Will Tell You from the Me, Myself, and Irene soundtrack. I copied this lone track from a promo copy at my old college radio station. I know it's a long shot, but I've been craving the Ben Folds Five version of Barrytown from the same soundtrack. Does anyone have it?

If you hook me up with the second one, I will host it forever on my site.

You're damn right he's good. Tyranny is great, but I think I like the main 3 equally: Sheets, Tyranny, Hearts of Oak. One of our good friends has some MP3s up here: http://www.captainsdead.com/?p=544 I haven't listened to them yet, but I intend to tonight.

You're right. And that certain level of respect is given to him in a form that few others receive: The Secret Service. Otherwise, he already gets more free, unjustified, ceremonial respect than he deserves, and he'll get it for the rest of his long, heavily-shielded life. And he's the only Commander In Chief we've ever elected on Benefit Of The Doubt.

It's a decent book, but at about a 4th grade reading level. I believe it.

Haha, I'll let you off, but only because 3 of my best friends are about to graduate from law school. I won't deny, though, that when they told me they were going to law school, I asked "Aren't there enough lawyers?"

This, coming from a lawyer?

That's a valid point. In the words of Billy Bragg: When one voice rules the nation Just because they're top of the pile Doesn't mean their vision is the clearest The voices of the people Are falling on deaf ears Our politicians all become careerists They must declare their interests But not their company cars Is there more to a seat in parliament Than sitting on your arse And the best of all this bad bunch Is shouting to be heard Above the sound of ideologies clashing Outside the patient millions Who put them into power Expect a little more back for their taxes Like school books, beds in hos
