We are actually staying in Virginia (much much cheaper) and taking the metro into the city. Alexandria, VA I think....... I am open to most kinds of food (except seafood...blech)

Graham and I will be in DC in March. While we have a good day and a half booked up with workshops and a demonstration, we will have day or so to see some sights. Any recommendations for good (and cheap) restaurants and maybe some sights, which might typically be overlooked, would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been to DC in over 15 years. I am thinking about going to the Holocaust Museum and the Vietnam Memorial.....have never been to either. Any ideas? Thanks!

I am so glad I am not the only person who caught wind of this.....he was very stealth is his word usage when addressing this issue......it was sickening.

Well he was a state senator before being elected to national office - he has a stellar resume and is a very intelligent human being. I was in grad school in Southern Illinois in 2004, and he was paying visits to communities all over the place down there. People really took to him, and he is a stellar orator. I watched his run in 2004 very closely, and that address at the convention was amazing. We desperately need a leader who is capable of both abstract and concrete thought on a complex level AND one who can speak to the people in a way that touches them without using fear tactics and simplis

I think Obama has a magnetic personality - and of course it doesn't hurt him that he is also very handsome.

As long as Bush is in office, rattling the sabers of war, arrogantly turning a deaf ear to his own advisors, military officials as well as the majority of his own citizenry - and laying down the groundwork to expand his current failure of a policy into Iran - I will bash him left and right. As for Obama - I was carrying the Obama '08 flag in 2004. The thing about Obama that I have never felt with any other politician in my lifetime is the feeling of hope. He gives me hope......he is articulate and intelligent.....comes across as intensely diplomatic and is a critical/deep thinker......this

I still don't think I know anyone that connected with him pre-2000......everyone I know, and knew then, thought he was an arrogant, bumbling prat - he has proven them correct.

If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have read so many of her books - You are the one who gave me Blue Shoe I, too, love Plan B and Traveling Mercies.

I have Bird by Bird on my shelf, and have read a little bit of it, but never finished it. I am usually not much of a fiction reader, but do love Anne Lamott's stuff. Her writing is so delicious and relaxing. My favorite, of her fiction, I have read is Blue Shoe. I read it while held up, unable to walk for a few weeks early last year and it was such a soothing book to read. I loved Rosie and am thoroughly enjoying Crooked Little Heart. It is my bedtime reading, and I look forward to it every night. (sorry, I am too tired to italicize my titles)

I got to see go see Becks play back in my days spent in Manchester - so, I have satisfied that desire thoroughly. That said, I would like to see a Chicago Fire game sometime. After all of my time in England, obsessing over football and going to matches from Newcastle to London, I would like to see how it is done over here.

*sigh* wow, this takes me back
