  1. Wait, are you being sarcastic? No cheek, I'm legitimately curious.
  2. Perhaps therein proving the failure of the statement and the difficulty of trying to pitch anything in this Mike Judge meets Johnathan Swift political reality TV show.
  3. I think we're missing her tactic here. When she said "half", that gave people who don't like to see themselves as xenophobes (or who actually know what the word means) a chance to say "That's not me, but some of those other guys.... ew." That might be a way to nudge a Republican who was holding their nose and fighting back vomit to stop short of pulling the cheetoh colored lever.
  4. I live in Colorado and I've probably shopped there half a dozen times. I hope they keep it alive.
  5. Ha! My daughter is just 2 weeks old. I keep saying "Cry All Day" is her theme.I find sitting around at home with a newborn to be perfect for listening to records all day. Congratulations!
  6. I'm disqualified for liking each as its own thing BUT..... if I were cherry picking I'd be sure to include "More". It may have been the bombastic final straw in my car's ailing speakers.
  7. My favorite band in high school had a smart quote in their liner notes which applies here: "Music is an indirect force for change, because it provides an anchor against human tragedy." I'm glad we all have that. Hang in there.
  8. So here's something I'm wrestling with: PC caution and the Left- re: "basket of deplorables". I'm often an advocate for political correctness not for decorum, but for both inclusiveness and logic (see my pointlessly finger waggy detracting from a perfectly good discussion of music over a member's use of the term "ghey".) When someone on the right casts the danger net over all immigrants and Muslims it's not only dehumanizing, it's factually false. What are we to do on the left as a certain faction of the GOP points towards elitist prejudice when there is data showing bigotry from a majorit
  9. He really shouldn't read this shit.
  10. Interesting, I can see how Common Sense is the Sunloathe of this record (in the performance technicality department), but I'm surprised they haven't made a go of Just Say Goodbye.
  11. Good call, like Murray Street era SY.
  12. Anyone keeping track of the Schmilco songs they have and haven't played live?
  13. Omg cannister biscuits opening reduces me to an anxious 5 year old.
  14. Thanks. I like to listen and share.
  15. I didn't take it as sore, a few just disagreed. I totally see your cultural critique but the response was business, supply and demand for exceptional athletic talent.
  16. Alright, I'm gonna nerd this out hard now that I have a legitimate download (still waiting for my vinyl). "Normal American Kids" Super intimate. You can imagine it coming out of the scene in IATTBYH when Jeff was playing solo. It's so simple and crystalline, one of those moments that show Tweedy can sit along side Joni, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Leonard Cohen... distilling feelings into an acoustic guitar and some singing. "If I Ever Was a Child" This sits in the unassuming, Kinks-ish cheery sounding strummers he's been writing- along side "Summer Noon" and "Taste the Ceiling". The accom
  17. Yeah it seems that one trend here is many people liking WTA less than most others.
  18. You ranked AM twice. We're getting to a large # of records with a huge range of possible rankings. I think it's expressed mathematically as 10! But I forgot how to solve for '!'.
  19. This is what I'm grappling with (a lot of people feel the way you do): Why is it especially disrespectful at an NFL game? Is the NFL American church? Would it be easier to accept at a soccer game? I agree, and that's why I think it is an essentially American gesture.
  20. AGIB YHF TWL SW BT ST Sch (likely to shift over time) SBS W(tA) AM
  21. Is that an indictment of his gesture, or the people having the dialog about it?
  22. The most revelatory part of it for me is how many white people I know who are living comfortably and didn't even want to think sincerely for one instant what he was trying to communicate. I feel like I've become an unlikely spokesperson for understanding white privilege. I really think it starts with getting folks off of the defensive. White people, like all people are shitty listeners when they feel attacked. It turns out they feel attacked when the football guy doesn't stand for the song about their country.
  23. Yeah, two albums in a row that pitchfork hasn't shit on. A 7 from them is like a B+ in one of my other professor's classes.
  24. Has anyone else found their Facebook feeds cyclically littered with hot debate about whether a pro athlete should ever sit out the national anthem?
