  1. Me too! I only got into the Nerves a few years ago and I love them.
  2. I heard M Ward do "To Go Home" before I heard Daniel Johnston.
  3. Oh yeah, I heard Minor Threat's 12XU a decade before I knew who Wire even is.
  4. I think they have a version of this one in the can from the SBS days. Their vault is so deep they could release a lot more stuff in the future.
  5. Share those weird times where you are introduced to a song or sometimes the existence of an artist because someone covered them. In many situations this can make you feel sheepish as being a hip music person seems to always mean knowing the source. Here are some common ones I experienced: I heard "These Days" first from Nico and much later from Jackson Browne. "Bobby McGee" from Janis instead of Kris Kristoferson. "All Along the Watchtower" from Hendrix instead of Dylan. More obscure: I heard The Wipers as covered by Nirvana, Husker Du as covered by Lifetime and weirdly "Steppin Stone" p
  6. I wonder if we'll see any new music released in 2017, be it a Wilco B-side/compilation track, new Tweedy, new Loose Fur or some other collaboration.
  7. I don't know what counts as big, but I saw bands that were unknown who became pretty successful, although not mainstream. When I was in high school I saw Alkaline Trio with 25 other people. They kept touring and coming through every six months or so, and every time the audience tripled. I saw At the Drive in with probably about 40 other people. I saw Foo Fighters play to about 200 people at a small theater, sometime in 1995 or 96.
  8. Psychedelic Furs 1. Love My Way 2. Into You Like A Train 3. No Tears 4. Pretty in Pink 5. Heaven
  9. Radiohead 1. Street Spirit 2. Paranoid Android 3. Idioteque 4. Pyramid Song 5. Jigsaw Falling into Place
  10. The Boss: 1. The Promised Land 2. Racing in the Streets 3. Atlantic City 4. Jackson Cage 5. Born to Run
  11. Sure, I get ya. I shouldn't be the speech police, it just hit my eyeballs hard and I know you're a nice person. Either way we know it's a metaphor/ assume good intentions et al.
  12. Do me a favor and scratch this one from the record. It detracts from your point and adds unnecessary crappyness.
  13. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/11/22/502993588/trump-nixes-meeting-with-new-york-times-after-tough-session-with-broadcasters President-elect severs diplomatic relations with media citing difficulty in reaching an agreement.
  14. Man the hissy fit Trump had about Pence being supposedly harassed by the cast of Hamilton is so rich, so ironic... We're in for some perplexing years of news.
  15. This is objectively untrue. You've been getting your pizza info from the Lame Stream Media!
  16. I can understand disliking candidates, but I find the "It's all the same" argument irresponsible and intellectually lazy. Whether you're voting for Satan or Dracula (Penny Dreadful anyone?) you're going to get a different result. You may as well make a decision of which one will work out, even if it's only slightly better. I think people are reluctant to vote because of misplaced political pride. My Clinton vote was not the same as telling people I'm a Beatles guy. I was on the hiring committee for our chief executive. Sometimes you interview a ton of people and you're not sure anyone'
  17. I proposed something in a Facebook discussion, it is not meant to be inflammatory. In fact it's the best way I can see to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Here goes: The majority of Trump supporters are not racist, xenophobic, white power believers. Those folks are in the minority. The majority of Trump supporters simply wish he was not those things and would rather not think about it.
  18. It's worth noting that Trump's chief strategist ran an alt-right newspaper/website associated with the white power movement. http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2016/11/13/501937200/trump-taps-reince-priebus-as-chief-of-staff-steve-bannon-as-chief-strategist
  19. Interesting stuff folks. I thought there was a story there.
  20. How did the connection of writing an autobiography called "my struggle" not discourage him? In the Norwegian it's "Min Kamp". I guess he's reclaiming something.
  21. That's fair, but that's also not the main idea of the discussion.
  22. No one said you needed a safe space. If you're referring to my story, some people feel unsafe. Some of my friends are in the Trans community and they often feel unsafe in a typical situation, things seemed a little heightened right now so that's been exacerbated. I can't recall anyone calling you a racist. I do think people have consistently called Trump racist, sexist, Islamaphobe because his comments have qualified him as such. You're right that all of his supporters are not- there was lack of engagement with the working poor in parts of this country on the part of the Democrats both
  23. My friends own a hip bar/venue. One of them posted yesterday about how it's a "safe space" for the long list of minorities who may feel threatened in our changing political climate. Today he walked up to the bar to open it up and saw "Hail Trump" spray painted across the front.
