It's a new shift in our political landscape. We are now cool with Russia, but have some serious tensions with SNL, the FBI, the CIA and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sanctions may be necessary.

Do you have any feelings about why Russia wanted him to win?

Ooops. Kevin and I grabbed the same little summary of garbage going on. Sorry Kevin. I saw it and felt a powerful need to share it here, before I read the latest posts. I'll leave it on so we can all read it twice.... and.... really... let.... this... sink.... in. Blurrgh!

Here's a detailed rundown of our week in American politics: 1/7/17 The federal week in review: 1. Trump fires all Ambassadors and Special Envoys, ordering them out by inauguration day. 2. House brings back the Holman rule allowing them to reduce an individual civil service, SES positions, or political appointee's salary to $1, effectively firing them by amendment to any piece of legislation. We now know why they wanted names and positions of people in Energy and State. 3. Senate schedules 6 simultaneous hearings on cabinet nominees and triple-books those hearings with Trump's first press c

There is some old mythology about the importance of starting on acoustic... it's just not true. The most important piece is which one he'll connect with and will motivate him. The electric is a little easier on the fingers, but blisters will be a hurdle either way. Electric also requires an amp. If I were trying to help a kid figure out if they cared about playing guitar, I'd probably get them a Yamaha acoustic (probably around $100, even cheaper used on craigslist if you have someone who plays to tell you if it's a playable instrument), or a Squire Stratocaster electric, or perhaps an Epi

That would be rad. They are going on tour, if that's any indication. -
Totally. Real Emotional Trash has the best expressive, fuzzy, noodling on it. I need to check out the older Jicks stuff. I only know this one, Jag Bags, and Mirror Traffic.

Perhaps his post Pavement peak (ppp)?

I always wonder the real source of his rage against McCartney. How Do You Sleep is brutal.

Holy shit! He's actually serious about the wall? He should probably go down and look at the build site before he gets some bids from contractors. There are some mountains and privately owned land that might make the project a little tricky.

He's pretty much a winner to me in every direction he goes. Wow has all of the components of a song I'd hate and yet for some reason I love it. -

Do you think the new Beck will all sound like the "Wow" single? -

Looks more likely that we'll see new Tweedy material judging from the Loft's Facebook page. -

Yeah exactly. Being constantly politically vigilant is going to be tiring. I guess that's what they're counting on.

At least they can be shamed out of doing something awful.

That came fast. I think we're in for a whirlwind the next few months.

I locked the old politics thread. It's interesting to randomly click around and see where it went. The early conversations were dominated with gun control vs gun rights, which dare I say seems pretty secondary at this point in the national conversation. Things got awfully slow at the end, I think from exhaustion and also it seems all of the participants in the thread, no matter what their political philosophy, were less-than-thrilled with the president elect. At some point retreading that feels tedious. I like how that thread stayed civil at least 96% of the time which is about all you can

I was just thinking today about how differently these two English groups approached the blues; Led Zep and the Stones.

Almost that time of the year. Top 10 albums of 2016

Thanks! Never heard of, nor heard. I'm streaming now.... I dig it. My first impression is it's about half way between Car Seat Headrest and Real Estate (to use some very contemporary references).... er maybe a less aggressive Cloud Nothings. Another P.S.- Dr. Dog released an album for charity only available on their bandcamp site. I need to buy it. I streamed it once and it's awesome. -

P.S. You know who fell right out of critical memory? PJ Harvey. It seems that Hope Six record didn't really connect with most folks. -

I don't have 10 (this was a good read to help me search) but half of Mr. Heartbreak's was disappointments. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed: Schmilco Big Thief-Masterpiece (which I ignored for months cause I thought the name was stupid) The I Don't Cares Teenage Fanclub Andrew Bird- Are You Serious Angel Olsen- My Woman Tribe Called Quest (still digesting) Bob Mould- Patch the Sky Russian Circles-Guidance All of my friends have been freaking out about the new Run the Jewels, but I haven't investigated their older stuff yet so I guess I have catching up to do.
