  1. So Trump's new press secretary Spicer had a shit fit with the media for reporting how few people came to the inauguration, especially in comparison to the Obama inauguration (and I imagine that they don't love being dwarfed by the women's march). He nit picked the difference in the conditions on the mall making things look different. Then he cited public transit data showing how many more people. From reliable sources his data is crazy inaccurate. My wife and I were debating. I said Trump is already damaging his standing by even talking about this crap, let alone lying. My wife says peop
  2. Yeah. Cops expected 30,000 here. Latest estimate was 200,000. Today was a big day for feminism. I've seen pictures of rallys in Barcelona and London as well as Los Angeles.
  3. My wife and daughter are marching at the capital building in Denver.
  4. Pretty Mess is the best Crimpshrine song ever, or maybe tied with Fucked Up Kid. Glad to see another fan on here. Samiam- Capsized The Bridge She Found You Don't Break Me Dull (mine's closer to a greatest hits)(also I get to see them for the first time in 15 years this spring)
  5. Yeah, I think that informed some of my view there. I'm very much interested in learning from the past and moving on with that knowledge. Yet at this point I'm pretty weary of picking through the ashes of the Clinton candidacy. I was a Bernie supporter, and then a Clinton apologist for many months. Having to justify her to my fellow uppity liberals got really tiring. I'm just sort of glad to be over that conversation. If the left is vetting candidates really hard now, that's good. We'll never have a perfect candidate, but at least it will be someone with less suspicion than Hillary.
  6. I couldn't even watch the entirety of the clips people were posting, it just kept making me feel embarrassed.
  7. I totally see your point in the "pick your battles" and "let's stick together against the real crap" type of lens. I think there is a danger of progressives dividing themselves over issues we don't even have the luxury of moving the dial on right now. That said, I also see a need to cultivate a progressive political figure over the next 4 years who's far removed from corporate interests- a non-swamp figure to use the horrific parlance of our times. The fact that Booker is on record for receiving six figures in donations from big pharma and he voted this way is troubling. The swift retributio
  8. I can say that I reacted negatively before reading everything about it. I saw Bernie was for it, and it was cheap drugs so I downed on Booker after seeing a meme. This is the kind of thing many of us could do better on, but it's tiring. I guarantee most of the people I work with don't know anything about the story, yet I jumped to conclusions too rashly. Being informed is a pain in the ass. (Not that Booker is off the hook with me).
  9. I'd be just as stoked on a Here's to Shutting Up sound as Majesty Shredding. Win-win! I saw they leaked a new Ride song, I need to track it down and check it out. *or was that Slowdive?
  10. That's a hell of a list. Hayden is underappreciated. I'm always hungry for more YLT. I wonder if Superchunk is going to continue their streak of no nonsense punk records or if they'll sprawl out a little more like their mid-period stuff.
  11. Those two and Jason Isbell write circles around the fools on the radio yet they don't get that level of attention..... which pretty much makes country music like every other genre in the industry.
  12. I dig Sturgill. I think the songs are a little better on Metamodern, but the overall production of A Sailor's Guide is cool.
  13. I think a start would be to find a dem leader who isn't equally in the industry pocket to the republican leaders. I'd love to find a person who's clean that way because of their ethics (Warren?), but I think we need to change the rules. Cory Booker recently broke my heart by pissing on a bill that would have brought sick people cheaper Canadian meds. Big pharma had lobby fingers all over the house.
  14. How much did he have to pay Iha and D'arcy to put up with his shit?

  17. Which is sweet irony because Bruce has said quite clearly that he has a lot of contempt for Trump.
  18. I love the live, full band, "acoustic" version of Spiders. It's too bad there isn't a studio version like that.
  19. I keep trying to see this from new angles, aside from my progressive outrage. How's this: From a pure political animal standpoint, as in "how the game is played", "political capital", "image crafting", every way of looking at politics as sport and not ideology Trump is in an unusually awful place. Even if only half of the shit actually sticks, he has more stink on him than any other president at inauguration I can recall which include HW Bush, Clinton, W Bush and Obama. History will look back with curiosity at a figure that was almost sunk by controversy before even beginning.
  20. I'm with you. Whether it happened or not, I don't think his critics should focus on it. There are so many things of greater consequence that he needs to answer for. We already heard him boast of sexual assault, how would gossip about some kink do anything anyhow?
  21. I think some of what you're saying here is fair. I'm also a fan of late night comedy TV, and I also dislike when they do a Trump story that isn't particularly pertinent, or insightful.... because "that's just what we're doing these days". But I also think we should be engaged, and vigilant, not merely wait 4 years. I think if we look at what real conservatism means- limiting the power of government, stopping corruption, increasing transparency, as well as what real progressivism means- preventing the very rich from rigging the system to benefit themselves, while trying to give the poor an op
