  1. Yeah there was an NPR story where she was back at Wavelab with Craig Schumacher working on new stuff. I'm sure it will be mind-blowing. She's been on a roll since.... well since she started.
  2. I appreciated the full download and gave it a spin. I thought the production was perfect, the rhythm section is magic, and the horns are outstanding. The blend into aggressive rock seems to work better than one would expect, and the appropriation of Nirvana, Radiohead, and Pixies riffs seems pretty cool. I also like the female vocals, as well as a lot of the effects on the mc's voice. That said, some of the lyrics are awful. Between the sporadic gangsta' shit, and hitting the trifecta of 7th grade poetry rhymes ( cry/die, tears/fears, thinkin'/drinkin') I felt disappointed that an otherwi
  3. The right wing cries that reducing military spending will damage employment is a hilarious, incidental, acknowledgement that the Keynesian perspective is valid.
  4. http://www.shakingthrough.com/artists/episodes I know its' kind of "watching and listening to" but this seemed a good thread to share. The premise of the show is they record and film a band who has to finish one song in the studio in one day. You get to see the problem solving process and hear the artist, producer, and engineer reflect on how it went. All very hi-fi, all very free. Better still engineer dorks such as myself can download the tracks to mix at home.
  5. I would argue that musically, not politically, the left wing has a stronger showing. I can listen to stuff I don't agree with (but it's harder to relate to), nevertheless the right can keep Nugent, and Hank Jr., and I'll keep REM, Wilco, Springsteen, and Pearl Jam. In another political question, I've been hearing a lot about the change in the country's view of gay marriage. There was a poll recently that showed more for than against. How can the republican party come to terms with the current prevailing attitudes and growing demographics of our country?
  6. I like how the cool people on here debated it out, kept sharing articles, checked the grammar of my "edition", brought their varying perspectives into the fold. This place was my often my favorite part of the sometimes cantankerous election disputes. I hope there are a bunch of political threads going forward, I might even start a couple. As far as the election going it's a pretty done deal. Loved and locked.
  7. I've got a late entry: Forgetters S/T. New album from Blake Schwarzenbach of Jets to Brazil/ Jawbreaker fame. Manages to blend the strengths of both of his former bands. A real grower.
  8. One of the top contemporary bands for my money. I'm pumped, except they're skipping my town on tour.
  9. I like when Jon Stewart played a clip from Wonka about the people who wish to secede: "Oh no.... stop... don't go...." barely batting an eyelash.
  10. The Latino vote has been a big topic in post election discussion. After reading this article I'm thinking the GOP had better start taking Spanish as a second language courses. They are going to have a lot of wooing to do, and I don't think "cracking down on immigration" is about to get any more popular. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/11/19/121119fa_fact_lizza?currentPage=all
  11. I've got "Cold Fact" and I'd say 10 songs out of 12 are solid winners. I never get tired of "Crucify Your Mind",
  12. Metallica Some Kind of Monster is the most hilarious piece of rock movie ever.
  13. I think we're close to being ready for a lock, but I feel there is still a bit of denouement left in here. I think there are some things to look forward at, some promises to discuss and some perspective to be had. Here is the one that fascinates me: We had a candidate who couldn't be bothered by facts, and he was not elected. It seems the Republican party is ready to regroup and hopefully return to a former dignity, sanity and logic. The game is changing. This country is not a dumb, white country. It is a smart, multi-ethnic country. I have high hopes for how our conversations move f
  14. I think this election will force the Republican party to up their game. The old 90's, 00's paradigm isn't going to work anymore.
  15. I can't help but think of all of my friends who have offered up the equally cliched "Two party system is busted. What's the point? They're all the same criminals." argument. I can relate to their sentiment. There is some truth to it. It's a massive oversimplification, but there is something to it. The problem is that everyone I know who feels that way responds by either a) not voting, or voting for a third party. Neither of these options is an effective form of activism (nor are they really "active" at all). Until there is some kind of legislation that evens the playing field for 3rd
  16. I saw Wilco for the first time right after this period, as some people are saying. I think it was their first or second tour with Nels and Pat. Which most of us agree was phenomenal. If you need convincing that the smaller lineup could do great things watch "Radio Cures" on the IATTBYH doc. Or the Letterman appearance where they play "War on War". Definitely some cool stuff going on in those days.
  17. Good posts, we're already healing our partisan divide. At the end of the day people bicker because they want what's best for the country and see different ways of accomplishing that.
