It would be good to get some reflection on the AGIB process. The creative process has been well documented. The interesting part for me is how Jeff was doing some of his best writing at the time, and taking new risks on the guitar to great effect, yet was apparently barely functional in the studio due to being at a personal low with migraines, pain killer addictions. How was that for the band? Leroy left right after. And then how was it for Pat and Nels to join up when they were aware of that reputation? And then how was it for Jeff to get way better and have the new guys vote of confide

I see what you've done there, yet they're still not quite the same thing.

Had the GOP not stepped in they would have thrown all of that money at highways, and bridges. Phooey.

Sometimes you just gotta spend some money.

I saw Morgan Freeman on the Daily Show yesterday. It reminded me how much I'd like to sit down and have a drink and chat with the guy. He's brilliant, unassuming, charismatic and funny. I would love to have the guy over for dinner. Who's at your imaginary dinner party?

If they're not finished recording an album in the next month or so, the chances of it coming out this year are slim. I bet we'll see the next one in 2014.

The most fascinating thing about our pointlessly binary political system is the irony that conservatives are supposedly for individual freedoms yet have moved to constrict them when they don't suit their religious superstitions. Liberals in hopes of guaranteeing prosperity for their fellow citizens are more willing to require them to give up some of their income for the purpose of prosperity. Being more or less a liberal it's easier for me to think around the second irony than the first.

Oh, I didn't read the start date. I was gonna say Wilco's next album should be a pretty sweet treat to listen to, and some kind of surprise.
-
Totally. This place is a good outlet, but I couldn't think in those terms constantly. The idea reminds me of some of my more tedious friends in college.

I'm not sure if a Sunday talk show host is the best battleground for keeping the criticism of journalism substantive. It's kind of like saying someone gave Chucky Cheese a cheap shot, when the real discussion should focus on culinary arts.

I think that was more than a little hyperbolic. To me the most curious part is what was the Justice Department looking for when they dug in to the AP's records? That's the curious part, but it will probably remain a secret since they seem to be worried about keeping intelligence a secret.

Not true. David Foy, March 2, 2006, Karachi. Several Americans, and scores of U.S. hired security guards, and police have died as well in 13 embassy attacks in the last 11 years. Also, while Smith's mother has stated publicly that she thought Obama killed her son (for some political gain I suppose, I thought the story says they were covering it up for damage control), I don't think we can synthesize the rest of their families' opinions. I merely wanted to indicate that some of the media usage was cheap drama for selling ad revenue.

You don't think someone using their loss of life as a political chip would get stale? If I lost someone I loved I would find a Fox frenzy very stale. They have, and will be investigating. That's just proper procedure. Several of these types of attacks happened during the Bush years and no one made much of a story about it.

Yeah, that whole deal has gotten pretty stale. Here's some fresh outrage: http://pitchfork.com/news/50672-catholic-league-disses-david-bowies-the-next-day-video/ Apparently David Bowie can't do what he wants with Christian imagery without infuriating the Catholic league. Apparently they consider calling him "bisexual" a great big dis.

He should have said, "Many Sith's have been known to speak in absolutes frequently. I'm sure there are exceptions, but there is a pretty clear pattern."
-
My favorite part of the Beck speech on gun control was "The dark doesn't understand the light." I'm reminded of something Obi Wan Kenobi once said about speaking in absolutes.
-
When did you hear that?

Yeah I do too. I don't really think the main purpose of it has been presidential speculation. I strongly disagree with Hixter on many issues, as well as Tweedling, Jules and a few others. That's why I've been posting here. It's a worthwhile exercise in articulating thought. If everyone on here had the same views as me it would be boring to discuss. I appreciate spirited debate with people who land on some other part of the spectrum. Thanks conservatives, you keep this interesting. Also: you're wrong. I have proof. For a political thread on a messageboard it has been delightfully fr

It wont happen, but I'll never forget the time he mopped the floor with Paul Ryan's pretentious ass on national television.

Cruz is a clown. He doesn't stand a chance. The GOP platform won't put him up. It's gonna be a classic (Jeb) or someone that will stay quiet until the primaries. Remember when Michael Steele was the hot shot? They love putting someone up as cannon fodder for the media and saving the real deal for game time.

Ok, guys I've been thinking about all the back and forth, some fair criticism of my over earnestness and the truth of Wilco's career. This is the correct ranking: AM BT ST YHF AGIB SBS W(TA) TWL

No one said that. I mistook it for being implied somewhere between a real argument and a satirical one. My fault. It is fair to say that as far as the pre 09/11 world is concerned, Clinton was more focused on bin Laden than Bush ever was.
-
If by "not going after bin Laden" you mean Clinton ordered 60 odd cruise missiles be fired upon his training camp then you're right. He was criticized as being obsessed with bin Laden.

In every newcomers defense it just says "Rank the Wilco ALbums" in the title. If I joined a board and came to a thread years old and tens of pages long, I might not read the first post. I know that's less of a funny thing to say. Sorry to all of you sadistic devils.
