I LOVE this! I have two tattoos. One on the inside of my ankle which I would love to change- long story, but I was too young and stupid to realize it wasn't really what I wanted and the Pearl Jam Alive guy on my hip...I do wish it were a bit smaller now. I've toyed with the idea of a Wilco tat myself- but I think two might be my max. I might reconsider for this one, though!

I'm in my classroom working on the holiday and a co-worker just walked in to ask me if I had heard this news. I am shocked. I was just listening to the Summerteeth Demos this morning. I echo those who have expressed condolences for his family and gratitude for his contributions to music. In pace requiescat, Jay.

The two books that I am always pushing are A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole and The Cider House Rules by John Irving. While I enjoyed the movie "Cider House", I think it actually did a huge disservice to the book...as is usually the case, I suppose. I have a few extra copies that I force on friends. As for the former, I have a young Ignatius in my 8th grade class. True story.

I was prepared to listen to it once and banish it to the "Hate it" pile. I can't. I find myself singing it all the time. It certainly isn't their best, but I kinda love it.

I am really anxious to see it. My 8th grade girls are completely obsessed...screaming, giggling, etc. I figured I would read the book to see what the draw was and loved it. Now I'm addicted- and one of them had better bring me New Moon tomorrow or there will be consequences!

I'm teaching personal narrative in my 8th grade writing class. Their first assignment is to pick a song from their own music collections that fits those criteria. We'll be listening to several examples in class. Wilco is always part of my agenda in my instruction- I'm a pusher. The problem is that this is basically my first year teaching and I'm too tired to think. Any English teachers out there? Help! Thanks!

I hope so! It should also be noted that The Fleet Foxes had a lot of family members sitting in the front rows....including grandparents. They remained sitting during the entire show, so it may have looked from further back as if people weren't enjoying the show.

Just heard them yesterday on KEXP driving back to Seattle from the Spokane show...I immediately bought the album. I'll put up a link later...the song that sold me is Bogachiel Rain Blues but I'm loving the rest of the album. They are compared to Gram Parsons and The Band, among others... I had the BEST time....I was a little dismayed at the crowd, but as stated, a subdued crowd has its merits! I met Jeff after the show- he could not have been nicer or more gracious. I made shirts that read "IMPOSSIBLE GERMANY UNLIKELY SPOKANE" so I am for sure entering the picture with him in the photo contest! The high of meeting him is putting off my usual Post-Wilco Depression Syndrome.....I wish I were going to more shows!

Welcome to Seattle! Seattlites often have a reputation for being passive-aggressive and unfriendly...usually not the case. Be patient. My first recommendation would be to get a membership to the EMP. It's a bit pricey, but worth it. The museum is amazing...EMP Oh- wait...FIRST buy tickets for Bumbershoot! This year we've got Beck, Band of Horses, Minus the Bear, Tapes n Tapes, it goes on forever....Bumbershoot. Should be a good year. No, no, no. FIRST buy tickets to Wilco in Spokane on August 21st! It's a four hour drive to the Lilac City....but I'm pretty sure there are tickets availab

TRUST. I was just home for a week and a half for some family events. Most of my townie friends have tickets (I think they figured it was easier to buy tickets than to listen to me give them the hard sell every two days)...but so many people didn't know who the band is or that they are playing there. I did my best to convince people...but you know- you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him listen to Wilco. I, too, hope that fellow Seattlites mobilize! AND! I just returned to Seattle...my tickets are delivered according to USPS...but are nowhere to be found! GRRRRRRR!

Nah, I know that there isn't mean spiritedness here. I was amazed by him in 'Empire,' and have loved his choices since then. I loved Newsies...which probably has more to do with sentimentality (and his hotness), but have loved his performances in subsequent films: Swing Kids, Velvet Goldmine, A Midsummer's Night Dream, the TV Jesus thing, American Psycho, Laurel Canyon, the new Batman franchise, and I LOVED him in I'm Not There.
