There's a really great outdoor venue north of Boulder called Mishawaka that is right beside the Cache le Poudre river, is small, you can camp out nearby, and has a building with a deck you can drink beers on while bands play. Truly a gem. Also, one of the things that makes Red Rocks so wonderful is not just the physical beauty of the ampitheatre and it's surroundings, but the sound. It can get eerily ethereal in there and there's really not too many "bad" spots for sound.

I believe it's switching hands from LiveNation to an even more corporate account, with some revamping planned architechturally as well as the inevitable name change. Hey now: I agree that Dylan pioneered a form of song writing in a major way. He's his own genre, in fact. But I still don't think that had Dylan not come along that song writing would have been so stagnant that Tweedy (and other noted song writers in the similar vein) would have been incapable of penning the majority of the songs he has.

I was thinking this on the way in to work as I listened to the Sticky Fingers outtakes: they are the best at it, imo. Save for Dylan, perhaps.

I agree with his immense impact on song writing, I just think that great songs would still be being written had he not come along. If we can imagine what song writing would be if there were no Dylan we can also imagine what it'd be if there were someone comparable/ (better?!) than Dylan in his absence. I do get you point, though.

I got to go backstage twice: once for Wilco opening for Sheryl Crow in like '97 or '98 and once when my pal rented it out for his wedding with all sorts of bands. That underground tunnel is pretty rustic. It's amazing how old the dressing rooms, etc. are with walls of stone/rock but seem ageless at the same time. That's a fantastic view there.

Not to be a contrarian, but I'm not sure I get this. Dylan obviously influenced a lot of song writers, but I believe folks would still be writing great tunes regardless if he were never in the picture. Folks who are accomplished artists have an innate sense for it. At least that's my take.
