  1. to prove it has nothing to do with interpretation you post someone else's interpretation?
  2. as if those people were some sort of leprechauns. thanks for another racist hate-filled post.
  3. I think this actually speaks clearly to how off base you are. You confuse religion with personal beliefs and and the conditioned presentation of a faith's diety with the experience of godliness. Except for some narrow groups you're trying to deride the point isn't in being right, but in the act of worship itself.
  4. yeah umm no. It's a slur against a religion and you can quote whatever you want you're wrong.
  5. My degree is in philosophy and my thesis was a refutation of the existence of god. I'm fairly comfortable with atheists having valid arguments having put them forth previously (with honors I might add). Your argument that people care what the content of your views are or how strongly you put them forth is hollow and without meaning. It's how you put forth your arguments, the shape shifting they undergo, and the condescending attitude that is carried within them. Uncomfortable is, as Bobbob points out, is the broad brush you use. Your arguments basically all assume that there is one reli
  6. Careful with that float stuff. Otherwise some might think you think you're developing spiritual powers.
  7. what books have you been reading? Thich Nhat Hahn's Present Moment Wondrful Moment is a delightful book and I wish I had the temperament to follow the teachings as he lays them out there. It is amazingly organic and gentle. Sadly that's not me.
  8. I'm the executive director of a religious foundation so I guess I suck. Imagine my finding out today that my life's work has not only been a waste of time but a part of the problem itself.move the dicussion forward? you've got to be kidding. You haven't let a discussion move forward yet, but repeatedly mire them in increasingly obscure layers of nonsense.
  9. Last check being an amputee isn't life threatening, and most amputees can go on to have a fairly functional existence. Most forms of cancer still lack a cure though, and your lumping them together in this manner doesn't really add to the impression that you have any idea what you're talking about. Great, you're a non-believer and you think you're better than believers. Which, interestingly enough, is at the heart of your complaint about believers....that they believe they are better and know better than others.
  10. I must have missed that course on how the 'core principles' of all religions are the same and are designed to go against science. Imagine my shock thinking they were primarily ethical systems and programs for personal development. If you think religion has taken people as far as it can you should perhaps try actually practicing the core tenets of some religious or spiritual system and get back to us in a decade or two.
  11. The downfall of mankind will be hubris. The form that takes is irrelevant.Without eradicating me and mine mankind will fall in one way or another.
  12. If I'm not mistaken Jeff said that was out of sequence. So...
  13. There are not two standards. There are not two groups. Not everything and everyone fits so neatly in the the boxes that sustain your need for debate. Do you really believe that there isn't a demonstrable beneft to people's personal belief in god? what about meditation? any form of spirituality at all? In the interest of honesty I should say that while I generaly like acorns I have met some I have not liked (that one that ended up in my croc comes to mind). I think the same can be said of my impression of those with faith. Although I tend to blame any of their short comings on their persona
