  1. Or, if it's that much of a burden, just send it to me.
  2. I am interested in the views of people like Charles Barkley, Bill Cosby, and Jimmy Carter who have expressed counter-intuitive opinions. I would find that as interesting as someone like Sean Hannity or George Will condemning the verdict.
  3. I suppose my biggest concern is for the pensions of retired city employees.
  4. I guess that ad campaign failed, a brutal combination of bad economy and bad government.
  5. Did you read the Whitlock piece? That word is just one piece of a hip hop culture that celebrates the young black man as a dangerous, volatile creature to be feared.
  6. I know it's wrong for me to use the n-word. I don't accept that it's okay for blacks to. That word and other negative stereotypes are played up in hip hop culture sold to rich, white suburban kids. That feeds the cultural monster that exploded that night in Sanford. A related piece by sportswriter Jason Whitlockhttp://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/whitlock-maurkice-mike-pouncey-free-hernandez-another-example-hip-hop-world-culture-corroding-071513
  7. I believe one of the 911 callers witnessed their scuffle.
  8. Yes it is. Not sure why you insist on treating his version of the events as gospel truth. The man had taken another person's life and had every reason to embellish when possible to save his ass.
  9. Thanks for the heads up. His latest tweet is pretty sweet. https://twitter.com/jasonisbell/status/357967423984504834
  10. GON's and Hixter's links both seem pretty reliable (lawyers admitted this was his MySpace page & Reuters is pretty reliable news agency) and paint very different pictures. Of course the shit I post in here would reveal a different sort of person than my students see and my friends at church see. So I guess we're pretty complex people. A couple of points... 1) This one I made earlier. Both Zimmerman and Martin brought with some life experiences and baggage that led to this tragic incident. I keep going back to Zimmerman's bad and wholly unnecessary decision to get out of his vehic
  11. Because they suspect that his targeting of Martin as a suspicious fellow had something to do with the color of his skin. There is no way to prove or disprove it. He apparently had called in lots of suspicious white folks as well, I really think he thought of himself as the Batman.
  12. They recently played around here somewhere and I speculated with a friend whether the lead singer ever bought a shirt. Did the new guy wear a shirt?
  13. See now, this is the kind of thing that got me hooked on this place about 5 years ago.
  14. In maybe both cases, patterns of behavior. The meeting of these 2 guys was doomed to end in tragedy. Neither completely innocent.
  15. Level headed discussion about Geo Zimmerman mostly
  16. I am so glad Tweedy was on his podcast, otherwise it probably would not have come across my horizon. They are consistently hilarious and interesting.
  17. All the more reason for him to have heeded the advice (probably legally "ambiguous", but come on...) to not pursue Martin. I suppose neighborhood watch volunteers are to be unarmed to avoid this kind of situation.
  18. But he was a trained neighborhood watch volunteer. So how is this difference substantial in the slightest?
  19. So gangs make 46 calls to police over a 7 1/2 year period?
  20. Wait, weren't you going a week without?
  21. If I'm following someone as a neighborhood watch person and a police dispatcher (are they not the same as police?) tells me "we don't need you to do that." I would decide not to do that, maybe the Slate author is right and Zimmerman is a reckless fool instead of a criminal. Hitter, you seem unwilling to acknowledge he did anything wrong (criminal or otherwise) that night. Also, curious, what restrictions on magazines do you favor? I seem to recall you arguing against proposed restrictions earlier.
  22. A worthwhile read http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/frame_game/2013/07/trayvon_martin_verdict_racism_hate_crimes_prosecution_and_other_overreactions.html
  23. They were, each and every one of them, great people. You could tell why most of them were great litigators. Charming, smart without being condescending. I had a blast for an entire weekend with a group of strangers other than my brother.
  24. Grohl has always seemed like a great guy. Really did a lot for Bob Mould with his tribute show in L.A. a couple of years ago and including him in the last Foo Fighters LP. I can't picture Grohl and Wilco recording together. Would love to see Grohl join them on stage for Kicking Television and maybe some Foo Fighters or Nirvana song.
