Not being in Mexico or other countries with lower wages.

I completely understand Louie locking his thread. It was his and he wanted it to have a certain tone, and I respect that. I find the bullshit aspect of VC kind of entertaining. I don't partake in a lot if it, probably some. Anyway it's always good for a laugh, so let the bullshit fly here.

New Grant Hart album -- July 22, 2013!
uncool2pillow replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Exactly. It might pay off in the end, but I'm not sure I have the time or energy to invest in that. Hot Wax is a great listen without having to -- you know -- think hard about stuff. -

Finally giving this a listen on the Guardian (I think today is it's official release date). There are some great pop moments, but just too much going on. I will listen to Hot Wax may more than this. -
This made me giggle https://twitter.com/RexHuppke/status/359323618515234817

The most important point I wanted to convey is that I appreciate your use of facts in your arguments. I don't agree with you all that often, but you are a vigorous defender of your point of view.
-
Why yes he is, go down to the part labeled 2:45. Hixter can be stubborn and not very open to other points of view, but at least he backs up his assertions with facts. http://blog.al.com/wire/2013/07/zimmermans_criminal_justice_ed.html

Did you mean acknowledge it's possible?
-
Martin was not on trial. No one needs to prove squat about what he did or did not do. Zimmerman's attorneys only needed to cast reasonable doubt on the charges brought against their client. They succeeded with those six jurors.

Or, if it's that much of a burden, just send it to me.

I am interested in the views of people like Charles Barkley, Bill Cosby, and Jimmy Carter who have expressed counter-intuitive opinions. I would find that as interesting as someone like Sean Hannity or George Will condemning the verdict.

I suppose my biggest concern is for the pensions of retired city employees.

I guess that ad campaign failed, a brutal combination of bad economy and bad government.

Did you read the Whitlock piece? That word is just one piece of a hip hop culture that celebrates the young black man as a dangerous, volatile creature to be feared.
-
I know it's wrong for me to use the n-word. I don't accept that it's okay for blacks to. That word and other negative stereotypes are played up in hip hop culture sold to rich, white suburban kids. That feeds the cultural monster that exploded that night in Sanford. I believe one of the 911 callers witnessed their scuffle.
-
Yes it is. Not sure why you insist on treating his version of the events as gospel truth. The man had taken another person's life and had every reason to embellish when possible to save his ass.

Thanks for the heads up. His latest tweet is pretty sweet. https://twitter.com/jasonisbell/status/357967423984504834

GON's and Hixter's links both seem pretty reliable (lawyers admitted this was his MySpace page & Reuters is pretty reliable news agency) and paint very different pictures. Of course the shit I post in here would reveal a different sort of person than my students see and my friends at church see. So I guess we're pretty complex people. A couple of points... 1) This one I made earlier. Both Zimmerman and Martin brought with some life experiences and baggage that led to this tragic incident. I keep going back to Zimmerman's bad and wholly unnecessary decision to get out of his vehic
-
Because they suspect that his targeting of Martin as a suspicious fellow had something to do with the color of his skin. There is no way to prove or disprove it. He apparently had called in lots of suspicious white folks as well, I really think he thought of himself as the Batman.

They recently played around here somewhere and I speculated with a friend whether the lead singer ever bought a shirt. Did the new guy wear a shirt?
-
See now, this is the kind of thing that got me hooked on this place about 5 years ago.
-
In maybe both cases, patterns of behavior. The meeting of these 2 guys was doomed to end in tragedy. Neither completely innocent.

Level headed discussion about Geo Zimmerman mostly

I am so glad Tweedy was on his podcast, otherwise it probably would not have come across my horizon. They are consistently hilarious and interesting.
